BS in Oceanography

The course of Oceanography emphasizes the formation of a critical and creative professional, able to identify and solve problems, to act entrepreneurial and ethical way. The technical and scientific training is directed to knowledge and oceans of behavior prediction and transitional environments in all its aspects, in order to train a person to act in a cross-disciplinary way in the use of activities and rational use of marine and coastal resources, renewable and non-renewable.

The professional field

The oceanographer is able to work in universities and research centers, in teaching, research and / or extension. In the public sector can act in federal, state and municipal agencies as Environment departments, departments of Agriculture and Fisheries; Works departments and Sanitation and various divisions of the Ministry of the Navy. In the private sector, are able to work in cooperatives of producers, security and environmental sectors of the chemical and environmental management of ports, industrial effluent control industry and environmental pollution, environmental consulting companies, engineering firms linked to coastal zone, seismic exploration companies, exploration companies, production and distribution mineral (oil and gas and derivatives), of fisheries and aquaculture extension companies.

Vocation

The oceanographer studies in marine and coastal environment, organisms, their environment and all physical, chemical and geological processes that interact in it. Collects and interprets information about the physical, chemical, biological, geological and aquatic environments. Analyzes the water composition of rivers, lagoons and estuaries and works in sanitation projects in coastal areas, monitoring and managing works and installations to ensure environmental preservation. Develops scanning techniques of natural resources of the seas and evaluate the effects of human activity on marine and coastal ecosystems, seeking to preserve them, such as the environmental control of aquatic organisms growing areas. Professional operates in businesses, government agencies and NGOs turned to the exploration, preservation and / or impact analysis natural means. Prepare to study mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and geology, as well as disciplines that address the management of living resources, marine pollution, fisheries management and marine and coastal systems.
