MENg/ BEng (Hons)/ BEng (Hosns) Extended Engineering Business Management

University of Greenwich
Campus Full time Part time 3 - 5 years September 2017 United Kingdom Medway + 1 more

Most science and technology undergraduate degree programmes typically do not reflect the growing multidisciplinary characteristics of the modern business enterprise. However, our degree programme in Engineering Business Management is designed explicitly to provide a solid technical background combined with an understanding of modern business and management practices. [+]

CEOs of large, successful companies and self-made millionaires are more likely to have studied on an engineering degree programme than any other subject area. The technical knowledge, analytical and mathematical skills, and creative problem-solving attitude gained from an engineering degree are well suited to strategic and enterprise-level roles in industry. This degree programme offers a broad-based approach, introducing the major engineering disciplines to provide a solid background in the principles and processes used to solve complex problems. Engineering skills you will acquire, such as optimisation and simulation, are directly transferable to enterprise management. Approaches to systems-wide engineering solutions are also highly relevant to many large-scale industrial challenges as both involve the need to identify, understand and design for large, interconnected networks of stakeholders. Our degree programme in Engineering Business Management also enables you to acquire management skills, both personal and interpersonal, together with knowledge of modern management techniques and business applications. The first year of all of our engineering degree programmes at the University of Greenwich focuses on the understanding of engineering science fundamental principles. This approach ensures that all of our graduates experience a solid foundation of broad technical knowledge and a working understanding of all the major Engineering disciplines – an essential prerequisite for a successful career in engineering management. At the end of the 1st year, students will be invited to choose to either continue on their initial degree programme or to swap to any of the other engineering degree programmes on offer. We feel it is very important that our students are empowered to be able to choose the degree programmes that are most appropriate for their ambitions and goals and we recognise that those may change during your studies with us as you learn more about each discipline. Engineering at the University of Greenwich. Quality. Industry. Rigour. Who is this course for? Engineers are problem solvers by nature. They are curious, creative, innovative, and practical about how things work and the world around them. They have the desire to help people and improve the world around them. They are driven by the desire to make the best, the fastest, the most efficient, the most sustainable. Students on this degree programme will typically be those who are interested in how businesses can benefit from the application of engineering principles to all aspects of their operations. The ability to break a problem down into its components, identify, develop and evaluate possible solutions for those components, and then integrate again into a cohesive whole is a particular challenge. It is for students who see engineering in a much broader context than the traditional view of simply designing and building things. Fundamental engineering principles are applicable in a much wider range of contexts, especially management, and the degree programme in Engineering Business Management allows you to learn how they can be applied at an enterprise management level. If you have ever stood in a queue and thought “This queue would move so much faster if they organised the queue this way,” then this is the degree programme for you. Computing is no longer restricted to desktop computers and business environments, but has become an integral part of the way we live. This is a rapidly advancing industry that is radically changing the way we live. There is a clear need a new generation of computing professionals that can adapt to these changes and develop the software, hardware and networking solutions of the future. Unlike traditional computer science degrees, you will not simply be taught strict theoretical programming. This degree programme will allow you hands on, practical experience in developing and using applications for a range of computing platforms and hardware. Computers of all shapes and sizes continue to be an integral part of our society and this Computer Engineering degree programme will teach you how these computers work and how to create the applications that run on them. For example, you will have the opportunity to develop applications for robots, embedded and real-time systems, and other innovative ICTs. You will also learn how industry standard tools and techniques can be used to find and develop solutions to many of the challenges in this area of engineering. You will become competent in development methods for desktop, internet, mobile and cloud software and gain a deep understanding of the hardware and software on which your applications will run. You will develop the skills necessary to recognise which platforms best fit the requirements of the users and the ability to evaluate and test the solutions you or others create. You will also gain hardware-based skills, for example in advanced networking, robotics/mechatronics and innovative devices. You will become an efficient and reflective practitioner who takes the initiative to identify emerging technologies and techniques, and who maintains your knowledge and skills within the fast-moving areas of engineering, computing and information technology. Your degree in Computer Engineering will enable you to identify and exploit new developments in technology and to experiment with new and existing techniques in designing and developing creative, innovative and effective devices to meet real-world needs. BEng (Hons)/ BEng (Hons) Extended Computer Engineering

University of Greenwich
Campus Full time Part time 3 - 6 years September 2017 United Kingdom Medway + 1 more

The programme examines the range of underpinning technologies involved in networking, specifically studying and evaluating the technologies involved in network configuration, design and their operation. [+]

Bachelors 2017 in Kent United Kingdom. BEng (Hons) The programme provides training in management and professional practice, and students can opt for a year in industry between their second and final years. In addition to the BEng Hons students are able to gain valuable industry qualifications in networking: Cisco's Certified Network Associate and professional certifications. Modular Structure Year 1 includes Introduction to Computer Networking, Programming Technologies, Computer and Communications Engineering Principles, Computer Modeling and Applied Mathematics. Year 2 includes Computer Engineering, Software Engineering and Project Management, Large-Scale Network Design and Infrastructure, Enterprise Network Systems. Optional Sandwich Year (Work Placement) Final Year includes Individual Project, Management and Communications, Advanced Network Design, Wireless Data Technologies, Information and Network Security Engineering. BEng (Hons) Extended Students who successfully complete the courses can transfer to other programmes within the university at the end of the initial year. This must be agreed with your tutor and the relevant admissions tutor. Students follow one of three pathways. This determines the type of programme they may study in subsequent years. Again it should be noted that this can have an impact on your loan entitlement. The programme provides you with a well-structured, relevant, enjoyable learning experience with a view to enhance student satisfaction, motivation and progression. You will develop these skills by us equipping you with an awareness of the computer engineering professions with a view to enabling informed choice of educational and career paths. This is achieved by developing you interpersonal and multi-disciplinary team-working skills with a view to facilitating effective participation in engineering project planning, management, design, and implementation. As well as developing your appreciation of the relevance of mathematics, to the computer engineering disciplines and develop fundamental knowledge and skills enabling you to produce concise solutions to fundamental engineering mathematical problems. Modular Structure for Extended Programme The Computer Network Engineering Extended degree is a four year programme. With a standard progression the later 3 years will follow the BEng Hons degree programmes as explained in G620M. If an alternative career path is chosen then students can apply internally to programmes offered by the University of Greenwich, this can impact on funding and students should consider this very carefully. The initial year is very project focused with the following modules Engineering Project Design and Implementation, Professional and Personal Development and IT Essentials. [-]
