    The department of Sports Medicine was established in August 2003. The Kaohsiung Medical University has made a substantial commitment to being the leading Sports & Exercise Medicine educator in Taiwan. The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive and contemporary curriculum and is designed to merge medical principles and sciences to facilitate physical performance in sports. Since 2008, the department has featured a new target for future development – “health promotion” with a modern concept of sports & exercise medicine, which emphasizes custom exercises for each individual. Our course offers a full-time four-year Bachelor's degree. The curriculum focuses not only on learning the basics of medical and sports sciences but also on health care management. The basic science of sports medicine is emphasized over the first two years, such as Human Physiology, Anatomy of the Human Body, Health Management, Kinesiology, Exercise Nutrition, and First-Aid. During the final two years, the course provides excellent opportunities in practical training which can be used as a foundation to further students with an aim to either obtain professional certifications e.g. "fitness leader" and "athletic trainer", or future research work. The University has worked closely with professional sports clubs, health institutes, and hospitals, and is responsible for providing a better medical service to southern Taiwan. The course has an important role in merging the various medical disciplines to create a first-class teaching, research, and clinical environment for health promotion in Taiwan.

    In the research area, the College of Nursing emphasizes research performance and academic achievement. Our faculty members have led outstanding research projects that were reported in national and international journals and conferences. These publications represent sustained and significant contributions to nursing knowledge and evidence-based nursing. Moreover, the College also houses the Research Center of Active Ageing (RCAA), which is a college-leave research center, which is to serve older adults in the community as a daycare center as well as a “smart living lab” for teaching and research. We are involved in active research aiming to develop a holistic care discourse on aging society from the medical, social, cultural, and environmental perspectives. As for international collaborations, the College has maintained strong partnerships with many well-known universities and colleges in the world, as a part of the effort to build up a group of health care specialists with professional knowledge, humanity cultivation, and global competitiveness. In addition to annually hosting an international conference along with frequent mutual visits with sister schools and research collaborations, the College also encourages participation in global practicum and a joint degree in Master Program and Doctoral Program as well as overseas medical services to broaden students’ international horizon. Furthermore, the College not only has a Master’s Program in Nursing. In fact, in 2016 but it also established the Doctoral Program in Nursing, marking a milestone for the College of Nursing at Taipei Medical University.
