Best Part time Bachelors in Theatre studies 2017. CAO minimum entry points 2016: 280 first round Programme description: This undergraduate programme (level 8) deals with an area of drama and theatre education not currently catered for at third level in Ireland. Applied theatre is considered to be the study of drama and theatre across a range of practical applications and non-traditional settings, including but not defined by stage performance or the study of literary texts. Contemporary theatre signals that the programme will deal largely with current and emergent modes of theatrical production and reception. This programme will seek to articulate the contemporary, varied and ever-changing roles of theatre and its practitioners in society. At its heart will be the concept of ensemble, which loosely defined, values and emphasises the importance of the practice of the collective. The idea of a working in a pro-social manner in theatre will also be core to this programme. This highlights engagement with specific sites and audiences, and with the idea that theatre has a core societal function and exists not only as entertainment. This programme will be offered in close association with the Lime Tree Theatre, which is located on the College campus. Through our relationship with the Lime Tree, students on the programme will be exposed to the best local, national and international practice through visiting companies, festivals, etc., and from the input of a range of visiting lecturers and practitioners. Circus

The Bachelor programme in Circus at DOCH uses the skills and the artistic traditions as a foundation on which to build high level technical and artistic competences in new practices. It offers knowledge about, and an understanding of, the many forms of expression in circus. It also initiates innovative processes in methods of working and of expressing oneself in close relationship to choreography and the performing arts. Upon graduating, the student can use his/her artistry to contribute to the development of the circus movement vocabulary and in turn may even perhaps redefine the art form itself.

In the BA programme, this is done on two levels simultaneously, first and foremost through the core group of discipline teachers who interact with the students on a daily basis throughout the duration of the programme, bringing a wealth of experience both technically and artistically through their unique pedagogical approaches. In conjunction with this, we establish strong and enduring collaborations with numerous individuals and networks of individuals both within the national and international circus arena. These teachers, prominent artists and researchers, are highly present in the student’s daily practice. Through this rich environment, the students are continuously given tools that facilitate the ability to relate to one’s own activities within an artistic and social context.... [-]
