A bachelor’s degree is a four-year undergraduate degree and is the standard for higher education throughout most of the world. Bachelor’s degrees can be earned at state universities, at private universities, at community colleges and via online universities.
The study of performing arts focuses on both the theoretical and practical approaches in the many forms of artistic demonstration, including theater, music and dance. Students can study music either through an academic approach, a technical one, or both.
The Netherlands is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, consisting of twelve provinces in North-West Europe and three islands in the Caribbean. Our Jazz Programme ‘New York Comes to Groningen’ is unique in the world for two reasons: 1 Fifteen top New York artists travel to Groningen on a rotating schedule. Each week of the year one of them is teaching Monday through Friday. 2 All students (Bachelor and Master) work with all of the NY-artists, irrespective of the student’s instrument. Your main instrument is the focal point throughout your studies. The first year is mainly an orientation year. You will be attending theoretical classes, as well as taking main instrument classes and learning through practical training and projects. In the second year your knowledge and skills will be broadened and deepened, in both practical and theoretical subjects. You will be studying the foundations of musical entrepreneurship and teaching. In the third and fourth year a lot of time is invested in didactical subjects with a focus on work placements (internal, external and project internships). You can make your own choice in terms of optional modules, that fit your interest or capabilities. You may participate in an international exchange programme. Currently, 442 students of around forty-eight different nationalities study at Conservatorium Maastricht. There are three different departments: Classical Music, Jazz/Pop, and Music in Education. Conservatorium Maastricht offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
The four arts faculties of Zuyd University (Conservatorium Maastricht, Drama Academy, Academy of Fine Arts and Academy of Design) attract national and international artists and art students to Maastricht.
