Music therapy is a fast-growing field and Carroll University is one of only two institutions in Wisconsin offering an AMTA-certified music therapy degree. Music therapy is useful for a wide variety of patients, from infants to the elderly and those suffering from trauma, injury, illness, and disease. It can help reduce anxiety and stress, coax movement, generate social interaction and improve a patient’s quality of life in numerous ways. Music therapists work in diverse settings–from clinics and hospitals to schools and homes. In our program, you’ll study music, gain proficiency in an instrument, and also acquire the qualifications to be a therapist, learn clinical skills with patients, and prepare for professional practice.

The Bachelor of Music Education/Music Therapy degree is offered for those who wish to qualify for K-12 licensure through the state department of education and as a Board-Certified Music Therapist through the Certification Board for Music Therapy.

Students learn basic skills and techniques for drawing from direct observation using subjects such as still life, landscape, and architecture. The depiction of form, light, and spatial depth is emphasized along with accurate proportion and scale. Research tools such as thumbnail sketches, quick studies, sketchbooks, and digital resources are used to develop ideas. Analysis of drawings, critiques, and classroom discussions build vocabulary and enrich the students' understanding of drawing. Prerequisite(s): None.

This affordable pre-art therapy program offers flexible course schedules to help you advance in your career while managing the competing demands of your busy life—graduate in as few as 15-18 months! The Bachelor’s in Pre-Art Therapy is a pre-professional and interdisciplinary degree that makes connections between art and psychology courses, such as art and design, drawing, digital foundations, abnormal psychology, human development, and visual storytelling. Along with an internship, these courses help prepare you for a professional art therapy program.

The Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy degree is offered for those who wish to complete the coursework aligned with the requirements set by the American Music Therapy Association to qualify for becoming a Board-Certified Music Therapist.

Medical humanities is an interdisciplinary major that fuses humanities and sciences to provide a holistic understanding of health, wellness, illness and care. Through a rich, humanistic background integrated with a scientific knowledge base, students examine the questions related to health care through multiple disciplinary lenses.

Every living organism, from the smallest and most primitive bacteria to every plant, insect, animal or human being, contains DNA as the primary genetic material. DNA directs all cellular processes, creating the incredible variety and diversity of living organisms in the biosphere.

This major requires 13 courses. The bioethics major leads to a bachelor of arts degree and satisfies the humanities requirement of the Rochester Curriculum.

Life Drawing I This studio course addresses the structure and anatomy of the human figure. With this foundation, students render proportion, balance, form and mass of the figure. Drawing skills developed in previous courses are further refined by using a variety of drawing media. Prerequisite(s): DRAW 101.

The Therapeutic Recreation program provides a firm foundation of classes and hands-on learning experiences designed to help you develop skills in assessment, planning, programming, leadership, and evaluation. The coursework and classroom learning experiences prepare you to sit for the CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) credential administered through the NCTRC (National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification).

Welcome to the Medical Humanities Program Students in the medical humanities program at Rice study the social, cultural, ethical, and historical dimensions of how doctors, patients, and communities understand the lived experience of health and disease.

The music therapy program was established in 1980. This is the only music therapy program in the state of Oklahoma. Students may pursue either Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy or Equivalency/Registration in Music Therapy at SWOSU, both will satisfy the required eligibility for taking the National Certification Examination for Music Therapists for the credential of Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC).
