This co-terminal double degree programme aims to prepare students:
to become effective school teachers or other professionals who have a good command of the knowledge and skills in Language Studies; and
with positive work attitude and good interpersonal skills.
Upon successful completion of the programme, students will receive two degrees with a single honours classification and one parchment and a qualified teacher status (QTS) in primary and secondary schools.

The English Department Study Program was first initiated in 1964. At that time the English Language Study Program was one of the majors under the Faculty of Teacher Training in Language and Arts, FKIP which was affiliated with FKIP Bandung. Then, in 1967 based on the Directorate General of Higher Education Decree No. 161/1967 This FKIP integrates with Syiah Kuala University. PS English is the oldest Study Program in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Syiah Kuala University.
In its development, the English Study Program students have increased in number from year to year. Since its establishment, it has produced thousands of teaching staff (teachers) scattered throughout the Aceh Province and even outside the region until in eastern Indonesia. Likewise, the number of teaching staff is increasing in number and 90% of all teaching staff are alumni of the English Prodi S1 themselves. In summary, it can be illustrated that now the English Language Study Program has 13 (thirteen) qualified Doctoral teaching staff, 16 Masters; and 3 of the 16 people were completing the S3 program, each one in New Zealand, 1 person at Macquarie University, Australia, 1 person at the University of Liverpool UK....

This degree programme provides a solid training in two foreign languages chosen among the seventeen languages offered.
