General Course Outline The School of Law follows a semester system having 2 semesters in a year. The Students will complete 53 subjects which include 20 compulsory law subjects and 8 Honours subjects. These courses normally comprise of 24-30 lecture hours spread over a week for 20 weeks per subject. The students are engaged in the remaining hours, i.e. 12-18, in learning of different skills that are essential for the profession. All the papers normally carry 4 credits, which means four class hours of one hour duration each and one hour moot court/project work/tutorial per week; the 20 compulsory law subjects and the honors papers on the other hand would carry 5 credits each. The non-law papers consist of one major subject with 6 papers in the discipline of Political Science, and two minor subjects, 3 of history and 3 of sociology with one paper of English language/communicative English. The compulsory Law papers include 4 long papers with 5 plus credits in Constitutional Law, Labour Law, Family Law and Law of Contract; and 8 honors papers with 5 credits each for the purpose of specialization. The remaining papers such as the optional courses, clinical subjects, carry 4 credits each. All the papers and course outline have been prepared to incorporate the Bar Council of India Rules of Legal Education 2008, and a few more papers have been added with a view to impart the four type of skills mentioned above. The main objective of this course is to provide primarily in-depth knowledge in professional law courses with the four types of skills mentioned above. The course also focus to provide an integrated understanding of law in a environment of Financial Management, Business Administration, other managerial skills to cope the students with skills that are necessary to manage business in a fast evolving global environment emerging market so that they may develop a competitive edge while pursuing their career. The non-law major subject with 6 papers, introduced here is therefore in the discipline of Business Administration, one minor subject with three papers in Economics, and another minor subject with 3 papers is English Language.
