It trains students to become high-tech specialists in carbon materials and other composites. Carbon, whose scientifically correct name is carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), is regarded as the "black gold" of materials. This is because components made of CFRP are much lighter than steel, but extremely robust and resilient. Composites play a central role not only in the construction of jumbo jets like the A 380, but also in many other industries like automotive engineering, machine construction, shipbuilding, and wind turbine construction, which makes our graduates highly sought-after. Your Benefits Study programme unique in the whole of Europe Best possible career prospects in aircraft construction, automotive engineering, machine construction, wind turbine construction and many other industries Integrated skilled worker training (optional) Up-to-date content provided by professors with practical experience Collaborative partners like Airbus, DLR and Fraunhofer Institute in the immediate neighbourhood of the campus Management basics and soft skills training in the study programme Individual supervision in small learning groups Study Content The study programme imparts material and construction knowledge with regard not only to carbon fibre-reinforced plastics (CFRP), but also to glass fibre-reinforced plastics (GFRP) and other composites. It first lays the relevant engineering, as well as natural science and mathematical, foundations. Based on this, the study programme then provides knowledge in respect of the calculation, construction and manufacture of fibre composites. Practical laboratory work and projects will enable you to consolidate the theoretically acquired knowledge. Furthermore, the sixth semester is designed as a professional experience-oriented semester. Modules dealing with topics like project management, Business Administration basics, Business & Technical English and soft skills complete your profile. Integrated Skilled Worker Training You can complete the integrated skilled worker training as a Process Technician in Plastics and Rubber Engineering (CIC) in the third semester and in the lecture-free periods up to and including the fifth semester. Airbus Operations GmbH, a member of PFH's Board of Trustees, makes its training centre available for this. Depending on your target industry and activity, you can, however, also choose a different training programme or integrate an additional practical semester or a semester abroad into your study programme. In addition, students who have already completed a training scheme can complete the Bachelor's degree in just seven semesters. This study variant is also worth 210 ECTS. Stay Abroad The structure of the study programme also allows you to include practically oriented stays abroad, depending on your personal plans. For example, you can spend the whole of the professional experience-oriented sixth semester in a company abroad. Students who are not completing the skilled worker training can also use the third semester for a stay abroad. Practical Orientation The CFK Valley e. V. network of excellence provides a suitable environment for a practically oriented study programme. The network includes companies that use or develop CFRP technology, as well as the PFH. Stade is already the largest European manufacturing location for CFRP lightweight structures, with Airbus, for example, producing the tail fin of the A 380. This proximity provides you with many advantages: For instance, you can complete the professional experience-oriented part of your skilled worker training in one of the member companies of the CFK Valley. Equally, there are many other companies from a wide variety of industries in Germany and Europe that are available as partners for the practical elements in study programme and training. Career Prospects Excellent career prospects in many different branches of industry await you as a graduate of the Bachelor's degree in "Verbundwerkstoffe/Composites". These include, for example, aircraft construction, automotive engineering, machine construction, ship und yacht building, railway vehicle and wind turbine construction.
