The Odette BComm “BComm” what you want to be. At Odette, we believe that a business degree is only as good as the opportunities it opens up for you to reach your career goals. That’s why our Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) program provides you with an integrated foundation in all areas of business while fostering development of problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. In your first and second years, the curriculum provides you a broad introduction to business and intensive training in communication and group dynamics. Your third and fourth years will provide you with the flexibility to focus on your specific areas of preference – including Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Management Science, Marketing, and Strategy and Entrepreneurship. Also, if you wish, you can extend and deepen your education to include specialized training in Economics or Information Technology through joint programs with the Departments of Economics and Computer Science. Or, you may opt for a Co-operative Education program that combines academic semesters with work-term placements. In addition to being structured and student-centered, our BComm curriculum emphasizes international content and the use of a variety of individual, group, interactive, and experiential learning techniques. Concentrations in Business Eligible business students may elect to concentrate in one of six areas of business. To be accepted into a concentration, a student must have achieved a certain grade in that concentration’s gate-in course(s). To successfully obtain the concentration, a student must successfully complete all the requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce degree and must achieve a certain average grade for courses in the concentration and a certain grade in the concentration’s cap-stone course. Although concentrations will not be formally recognized on transcripts or degrees, the Odette School of Business will provide students with documentation indicating that they have successfully obtained their particular concentration. Students who have selected a concentration will normally be given course registration priority in their area. Note: Students registered in the Bachelor of Commerce for University Graduates program will be able to complete a concentration only by taking additional courses beyond those required for their degree. Depending upon the concentration, students registered in the Honours Business Administration and Computer Science (co-op and non co-op) or the Honours Business Administration and Economics programs may not be able to complete a concentration without taking additional courses beyond those required for their degree. Given the broad scope of the work, a large number of different focuses are typically associated with Strategy & Entrepreneurship researchers. For example, at the Odette School of Business, active interests include for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, corporate- and business-level strategies, domestic and international business, and corporate social responsibility. We also explore the relationship between our research and effective teaching. Our faculty members have published their research in a number of leading strategy and entrepreneurship journals.
