Cities, buildings, interiors. These have major influences on how we experience our world. In spatial design, we look at the urban environment and at indoor and outdoor spaces at small and large scale. It is a discipline in which cultural and artistic awareness, social engagement, economic responsibility and technical affinity come together creatively. You learn to deal with complex tasks and situations that society faces. You learn to develop your own vision and to translate it into concrete design practice. The method of learning is through projects which cover current themes such as repurposing of buildings, sustainability and identity. In previous years, these themes included ‘quick-visit museums’, a flagship store for a new brand, a ‘long stay hotel’ in an industrial area of Rotterdam, a multi-cultural theatre in a church in Zuidwijk (Rotterdam), and an overhaul of empty buildings in the inner city of Rotterdam. While working on design projects, you take practical classes on analysis; the application of materials; architecture; model (maquette) building techniques; draughtsmanship; software programmes; techniques for light, colour, texture; and presentation techniques; next to that you take subject related theory and history. And of course you can do an exchange abroad in for example Barcelona, Glasgow or Helsinki. After completing the course, you can work as an interior designer, assistant architect, designer of interior or exterior objects, exhibition designer or spatial designer. You could also further specialise to gain a Master Interior Architecture & Retail Design at WdKA’s Piet Zwart Institute, or at the Rotterdam Academy... [-]

Bachelor's programme in Artificial Intelligence

Radboud University
Campus Full time 3 years September 2017 Netherlands Nijmegen

In the Bachelor's programme in Artificial Intelligence in Nijmegen, you study how to make smart computers and robots. To do so, you need to know how the human brain works; computer models can for their part help in brain research. [+]

The Bachelor's programme in Artificial Intelligence; something for you? To come and study Artificial Intelligence you must be interested in the interaction between humans and computers. In order to build smart computers and robots, knowledge about the human brain is useful. For example, if you know how people recognise faces, you can use this knowledge to develop a passport scan. Reversely it also works: by imitating brain processes using computer models, you learn to understand the brain better. The requirements for passport photos are very strict; you shouldn’t laugh, your ears must be visible; you have to take of your spectacles and you must look straight at the camera. This is necessary because what you see at a single glance – person and photo match – is a complicated puzzle for a computer scanning the passport. At Radboud University in Nijmegen, you follow science subjects like mathematics and computer science, but also psychology, neurology, logic, linguistics and philosophy. With this knowledge, you develop computer models of the human cognition as well as intelligent computer programs that are able to execute tasks autonomously. In the first year, you become acquainted with the main subjects giving you an idea about the programme and the field of study. You develop a study attitude wherein taking initiative, logical thinking and creativity occupy the centre stage. If you doubt your choice, at Radboud University it is easy to change to a related programme. As many fields come together in the Bachelor's programme in Artificial Intelligence,... [-]
