Animation and Visual Effects at Lincoln offers an introduction to the innovative world of animation and visual effects through moving images, digital visualisation, and contemporary narrative. The course enables students to develop into creative animators and artists with the flexibility to practise their craft in a variety of media.

This course will encourage you to develop your understanding of the subject as not necessarily limited to marks on paper and to appreciate ways it can be both traditional and up to date. It will look at how drawing is interpreted virtually, spatially and across disciplines.

Learn the skills to bring your imagination to life in OCAD University’s new Experimental Animation program. OCAD U has a long history of graduating successful animators in art and film including George Dunning who directed The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine and Richard Williams who was animation director for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. More recently, alumni include computer animator Trudy Elmore and emerging VR artist Jawa El Khash. Shary Boyle, who represented Canada at the Venice Biennale, has achieved great success with her mesmerizing performances using hand-animated imagery. In this program, you’ll develop a personal artistic vision and push the boundaries of animation as a contemporary art form. You’ll mix traditional and digital media using 2D, 3D, stop-motion, digital compositing and augmented/virtual reality. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

The Painting and Drawing major is an interdisciplinary track that provides students with the resources to explore a dynamic, individualized studio practice. Students begin by learning fundamental skills based upon representation, then expand their work by exploring a variety of materials and self-directed concepts.

Game development is teamwork and experts are in demand from different areas. Game designers develop the game concept and set the rules of the game. As a game artist, you work closely with the designers and ensure the optical implementation, ie you design the game elements, eg. For example, characters, landscapes, buildings, and converts them into 3D models. Good game artists are characterized by ingenuity and a creative streak.

This programme aims to develop you as a creative animator. The animation route offers the opportunity to specialize in modeling, animation and composite-based applications in the creation of character film-making.

The VFX award is for applicants looking for a career in the film, post-production or games industries - although some graduates may move onto positions within the architectural visualization, re-touching/advertising agencies or postgraduate study. VFX is predominantly about ideas and concept generation for film or games, covering characters, vehicles, products, clothing, sets, and environments - ultimately taking those ideas through to finished concept artwork or 3D models.
