The course The aim of the three-year course in Product Design is to harness and nurture the creative talent of applicants in the areas of design, 3D development of ideas and in the graphic representation of design ideas through drawing. At the end of the program, the participant will have a complete knowledge of the entire creative process and the application of ideas to industrial production: they will be able to manage the creative process in research, prototyping and production, which brings about the realization of a product.The course will introduce the basic aspects of design using dedicated software that can illustrate the creative ideas, processes and skills that represent the best of Italian design. Through prototyping students will learn the relationship between shape, proportion and the dimensions of products as well as aspects in visual identity and brand. The participant will learn how to develop a project with a 3D graphic representation of the final object, taking into consideration the scope and limitations of an identified market. Research is the base to develop creative ideas and production will be driven by critical ability. At the end of the programme, the participant will have a perfect command of an autonomous project approach, developing a critical analysis towards the industrial feasibility of a product. Product designers must be able to professionally manage every phase of the project process because industrial products are becoming more and more complex and the market more critical and complicated (from furniture to watches, from household appliances to lighting ones, and the high tech). For this reason, designers must know how to manage, in an extremely professional manner, all of the phases of a project. The contemporary product designer cannot simply be defined as a “designer”, but also as a “design manager”, above all, because their role is crucial to the organization and completion of all aspects of production. The course aims to generate a professional with a holistic approach in the journey of a project, in order to provide participants with the basic to work to be able to work both in the design department of large companies, and also for consulting agencies or professional design studios. They have the possibility to also work for production agencies for consumer goods, or work independently as freelance consultants following the different phases of development of a product (from concept to realization).
