Based next to the Universities’ own laboratories, RLR Msport are an independent racing team who race in the Le Mans 24hr race, history Formula 1, speed series sports racing, and other international events. As well as RLR Msport being on the University site, our three dedicated laboratories have been refurbished with new performance measurements, computer aided manufacturing, and composite manufacturing equipment. We also offer engine test beds and a 1/10th scale wind tunnel. Additionally, the latest industry based software and analysis tools are available in our new CAD suite. The University is also involved with other performance car and racing organisations, which can provide employment opportunities. You will have access to dedicated materials and state-of-the art engine testing facilities, vehicle systems and engineering laboratories, the University’s unique design studio and Innovation Factory. The range of teaching and learning methods includes visits, workshops, guest speakers and practical sessions involving employers in the industry. The design facilities are equipped with industry-standard engineering design and analysis software. We bring together a broad range of design disciplines, including designers, engineers, technologists and students in a pioneering new concept in design development and knowledge transfer between industry and academia. The Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering (CAPE) is a purpose-built facility designed to bring together industry and the University to generate an inventive environment that is unparalleled within academia. We have invested heavily to bring you an outstanding range of design and engineering facilities, including specialist workshops, laboratories and testing facilities. What you will learn Many modules include assessment through assignments which include a substantial amount of hands-on testing. This focus on applied skills is a theme throughout the course, reflecting working practices in the industry. Throughout your studies, you will develop an understanding of automotive/motorsport computer systems and electronics. You will also learn about vehicle handling, chassis aerodynamics and suspension mechanics as well as the fundamentals of internal combustion science and tuning. You will gain an insight into the broader issues of transport and the environment, as well as develop transferable skills such as project management, team working, IT and formal presentations. You will also develop the intellectual capabilities of research, problem solving, evaluation and synthesis. About the course Our dedicated staff team will provide you with a high level of support throughout your studies. All the teaching staff are construction industry professionals with extensive experience and knowledge of the industry and they are all active in the industry’s professional bodies.
