Oranjestad is the biggest city in Aruba and home to some education institutions in the country such Universiteit Van Aruba and Xavier University School of Medicine.

Higher learning in Aruba provides several courses. Students with a HAVO (Senior general secondary education), MBO-diploma (middle-level appluied education, oriented towards vocational training), or even VWO (lower years) may opt to continue with their higher education. University of Aruba offers degree courses such as undergraduate, masters and even doctorate courses that range between time duration of 2 to 4 years.

A bachelor's degree is given to students who fulfill the necessary requirements given by the college or university they are attending. The requirements include three to seven years of focus on a subject, typically referred to as a major or concentration.
