Curriculum & Philosophy The philosophy of the Interior Design B.F.A. program is to create exceptional interior designers. Students become exceptional when they are able to think critically and creatively. They become exceptional when they embrace failure in order to better understand success. They become exceptional when they not only know history, but also understand its significance and influence on future design. Exceptional students are capable of using a variety of tools and methods to communicate their ideas. We do not aim to produce conventional designers – we create exceptional visionaries. In our CIDA accredited program, students will develop: Critical and creative thinking in order to problem-solve Collaboration, communication, and professionalism for entrepreneurs as well as employees Empathy to create human-centered design A global perspective An understanding of historical and cultural contexts for design Theory and manipulation of space, form and color Knowledge and application of furniture, fixture, equipment and finish materials Knowledge and application of environmental and building systems, interior construction, regulations and guidelines Success To date, eight of eleven student projects that were sent to compete for scholarships awarded by the prestigious Angelo Donghia Foundation in nationwide, juried competitions have won. This is one of the largest scholarships in the country awarded to interior design students attending CIDA accredited institutions. Students of our program have enjoyed internships and professional work with a variety of successful firms in areas such as Nashville, Atlanta, New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and abroad in China, Hong Kong, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and Dubai. Attrition and Retention: Of those accepted into the program in 2014-2015 academic year, 84% were retained. Graduation Rate: In 2014-2015, 100% of seniors graduated. Job Placement Rate: In 2014-2015, 20% became independent designers; 70% are employed in the field.* *Verification in process Faculty Faculty is comprised of professional designers and architects who are continually evolving and improving in order to better serve our students.
