The University of North Alabama is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The Department of Art offers major programs leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree; minor programs in art, art history, and photography; and coursework applicable to partial satisfaction of general studies components in all programs. Subject programs for the preparation of art teachers are offered as a double major in Art and Education.

The goal of the art program is to provide an excellent educational experience that develops technical skills, critical and aesthetic judgment, and a sound knowledge of the visual arts appropriate to students seeking a general appreciation of the arts as well as to aspiring fine arts professionals. The faculty engages students in the discipline of visual art as a major component in the liberal arts tradition including studio practice and art history.

The program focuses heavily on game creation. During their time at LIU Post students work on several solo and group-based projects, giving them a chance to develop a broad range of game creation skills.
