The philosophy of the course can be summed up by the words, ‘embodiment’, ‘imagination’ and ‘interaction’. The training develops the actor’s body and voice as strong and effective communicators of thought, emotion and intention, and opens up the imagination so that the actor can create and sustain three-dimensional worlds from the playwright’s text. These processes invariably take place in an interactive context so that the actor is constantly learning to respond to outside stimuli – whether people, objects or atmosphere – in an open and uncensored way. Students are entitled to full Equity status upon graduation.

The BFA degree in Musical Theatre is rooted in the liberal arts tradition of Lees-McRae College and is designed to prepare you to pursue a career as a performer and or leader in musical theatre.

Come and learn on our dynamic and versatile degree in Acting for Stage and Screen, which builds your skills both on-camera and on stage. This highly practical degree introduces you to acting and drama techniques via practical workshops. Your theoretical knowledge will also grow out of your experience in the studio. Assessments are built around performance and filmed work too as well as practice as research. You’ll also work with students in animation and film on various digital media projects.

Our Acting and Theatre Arts Top Up course explores a range of subjects, including writing, scenography, and theatre making at our state-of-the-art technical facilities. The Acting and Theatre Arts (Top Up) course enables applicants who have completed an HND/FdA in a relevant Acting/Drama discipline to progress onto the final year of the BA qualification. Our popular Acting and Theatre Arts degree blends traditional academic study with practical drama-school training. Acting, plays, directing, contemporary drama, practitioners, playwrights and applied theatre are central to this course.

The BA Acting and Screen Performance Top Up course enables applicants who have completed an HND/FdA in a relevant Acting/Drama discipline to progress onto the final year of the BA qualification. The BA Acting and Screen Performance (Top Up) course enables applicants who have completed an HND/FdA in a relevant Acting/Drama discipline to progress onto the final year of the BA qualification. The course creates skilled actors with the ability to work across all performance mediums, specialising in TV and film. You'll also get to explore theatre production disciplines such as directing and theatre making.

Focusing on practice, this two-year BA (Hons) in Performance course offers you the knowledge and skills to make innovative, relevant and engaging new work for contemporary audiences and communities. It is an ‘articulation route’ for students who have already achieved an HND in Acting and Performance. Focusing on the breadth of forms that performance can take, the course will be of interest to those who wish to explore the potential of performance beyond the conventional modes and spaces with which it is most traditionally associated.

The course gives graduates the skills necessary to work as an actor, on stage or on screen. You can also apply these skills to a wide range of other roles in the performing arts. This could include playwriting, community outreach, and theatre in education.
