With options to pick from a diverse range of majors in biology, engineering, environmental chemistry, mathematics, psychology and more, you will have broad career options, and, importantly, you will be equipped to tackle the big questions and solutions to transform our world.
Career Opportunities
In public and private sectors as a resource manager and sustainability advisor and planner, policy developer, biologist, ecologist, health scientist; and in scientific research.
Professional Placement
Students can elect to complete an eight-week industry internship placement to gain industry experience. Interns work with organizations across the science spectrum including local, state or federal government agencies; private consultancies; or business enterprises in Australia or overseas.

Biology provides students with a broad base for understanding principles governing life processes at all levels–molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecological. There is a strong focus on human impacts. The management of ecosystems is embedded throughout the major. (L, O*)
Engineering ensures students have a sound base of environmental engineering knowledge coupled with principles of physical and biological sciences. (L)
Environmental Chemistry gives students the knowledge to solve chemically related environmental problems. Students will also gain an overview of sediment and aquatic chemistry, which includes laboratory analysis of materials. (L, O*)
Human Biology provides students with an area of specialization within the health sciences. Students gain knowledge of physiology, anatomy, nutrition, exercise and health sciences. (L, GC. Note: some units may be studied online.)
Information Technology enables students to specialize in computing technology including programming, system design, and web development. (O)
Mathematics provides an area of specialization for students with advanced mathematical skills. Subject areas can include an overview of algebra, calculus, physics and more complex analysis and group theories. (O)
Psychology provides an overview of a range of psychological theories including learning and memory, psychological assessment and research in the psychology discipline. (CH, O).

Assessment methods
Assessments vary for each unit and may comprise a mix of assessment types, including laboratory and readings-based assignments, seminar presentations, field and investigation reports, and formal practical and written examinations.
Teaching methods
On-campus students experience a variety of teaching approaches including lectures, tutorials, workshops, laboratory classes, field trips, online activities and video-linked or podcast virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
Our online study option is highly interactive and strives to promote collaboration and a sense of community. Students may receive a combination of a podcast or video-linked lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
Please note: Some units may only be available to study online and some include compulsory residential workshops in Lismore that include lectures, tutorials, laboratory classes and field trips.
