The Bachelor of Science programmes offered by the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) are multi-disciplinary and equip students with the professional knowledge and skills for a broad range of complex, managerial and specialised work activities in the hotel and tourism industry. The programmes start with the Broad Discipline of Hotel and Tourism Management, a combined track of hotel and tourism management for the first year of study. Students have the option of choosing a Major programme of study, either the BSc (Hons) in Hotel Management or the BSc (Hons) in Tourism and Events Management after completing the first year of study.
The BSc (Hons) in Hotel Management programme educates students about the business of hotel and food service management. Its customer-service focus enables graduates to excel in the hotel and food service industry. This multidisciplinary programme prepares students for careers at the management level in the hotel, food service, and broader service industries, either locally or internationally. Students learn to be customer-focused, analytical and independent, and at the same time develop communication and leadership skills. They also gain a global perspective to meet the growing challenges that are faced by the dynamic hotel and food service industries.
SHTM students enjoy diverse opportunities for international exposure and practical experience in their chosen professions and are recognised throughout the world for the calibre of their learning. The Student Exchange Programmes enable them to live and learn in another culture and country, Industry Placements let them gain knowledge and practical experience from some of the best names in the hospitality industry around the world, and Study Tours allow them to experience different styles of hospitality first-hand in exciting locations.
