Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Food Science and Technology
The aims of this program are to nurture graduates who are knowledgeable and competent in handling issues concerning production, marketing and management of food, and nutritional science. The program will prepare students to be well-trained food scientists, technologists, regulatory specialists and food science professionals employed either by government agencies or private food industries, both local and foreign companies, establishing sales and manufacturing facilities in China.
Our curriculum maintains a current approach, encompassing the latest scientific, technological and industrial developments, aiming at providing the necessary human resources for the development of the food industry in China. The curriculum covers areas of general sciences, including General Biology, Microbiology, Physiology, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Analytical Chemistry, giving students a solid foundation in food science and technology. In addition, students are required to take a group of core courses specifically in food science and technology, such as Food Chemistry, Food Process Engineering, Food Analysis, Food Materials Science, Food Science Laboratory, Nutrition, Food Microbiology and Toxicology, Food Product Development, Quality Assurance and Safety of Food, etc. In addition, students will be encouraged to select some major elective courses based on their interests and plans for future development in two directions: science and technology，and business and management.
There are numerous opportunities for our graduates to gain employment in food industries, public health institutions, government regulatory agencies, food service providers, educational institutions, and other non-profit organizations. Since the medium of instruction at UIC is English, our students can meet the demand by many Chinese companies with a major focus on international business as well as that of foreign companies moving into China’s market. Since the inception in 2007, our graduates have been successfully employed as civil servants and technologists in private companies.
Our Food Science and Technology curriculum also prepares students to pursue higher degrees in food science and related disciplines in universities both in China and overseas. Many of our previous graduates were admitted to Master’s degree programmes in some renowned universities such as Cornell University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Hong Kong, and Lund University, just to name a few.
The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Food Science and Technology is a four-year full-time degree program. In addition to the major courses of the main discipline, students are required to take supporting, interdisciplinary, general education courses and the whole person education experiential learning modules of their own choice. In the final year of study, students take individual final year projects in which they gain in-depth knowledge, basic research techniques, and training in thesis writing.

Food Safety Professional Course
Food Safety Professional refers to people that have specific and technical knowledge and adopts relevant technologies and methods to manage food safety complying with the national standards.
Food Safety Professional is offered by China National Food Industry Association (CNFIA) according to the food safety situation and regulations in China. It aims at preventing food safety issues from the beginning and enhancing the quality of food industry employee.
Every training center must obtain the authorization from China National Food Industry Association. The Food Safety Professional Licence Training Center of UIC Food Science and Technology Program is the only authorized member in Zhuhai.
The main training content for Food Safety Professional includes food safety basics, food safety guarantee technology and food safety law. Trainees will be organized to attend the unified examination in June or December. Qualified trainees will be offered two certificates: the Vocational Training Certificate by National Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Food Safety Professional Certificate by CNFIA.
