As a tertiary engineering education institution, Mechanical Engineering Faculty (FKM) currently offers academic programmes at the first-degree level, master programme by research as well as a diploma programme to train the people in Mechanical Engineering.
The existing programmes are accredited by Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) for the first-degree and by Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) for the diploma. The duration of the courses offered is 4 years at the first-degree level and the entry requirements are Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or Matriculation programme or other qualifications as approved by the Senate of UTeM. Meanwhile, the duration of the diploma programme is 3 years. The medium of instruction and reference materials are in Bahasa Melayu and English.
In teaching and learning, FKM has lecturers and researchers who are experts in their own field as well as having wide industrial experiences. In the future, it is expected that most of the academic staff in each department are fully qualified academically and professionally. The diploma program is supported by all academic staff who are also involved in undergraduate programmes. All the first-degree programmes undergo a common curriculum structure for the first four semesters. These curriculums comprise of the core and university’s compulsory courses. In Year 3, students will undergo core curriculum programs which cover specialize subjects as well as compulsory university subjects. Students are then required to undergo industrial training at least 12 weeks, at the short semester (after semester 6) in selected industries. The objectives are to further improve the knowledge and engineering theory and as well as their practical skills. It is expected that this training will equip graduates with the technical knowledge of Mechanical Engineering and environmental advanced skills and a real career in the industry. The fourth-year students shall carry out their final year project in Mechanical Engineering field.
