Yes, you can! You don't need to be a computer wizard to start with as we will equip you with the skills and knowledge required in the field. You just need to be committed and hard-working student with a devoted attitude towards the world of information technology and engineering. What will you study?
You will learn the basics in core engineering subjects such as mathematics and physics. Professional studies in Information Technology will fortify your engineering skills in addition to languages and communication skills and business courses that will top-up your competence.
You will be linked to working-life throughout your studies via industry-related projects, work placement periods and a Final Year Project. This gives you a chance to create useful networks and plans your future career whilst studying.
How are studies implemented?
Studies are organized in multiple ways such as lectures, group work, projects, tutorials, and self-study. Studies also require full-time attendance in most of the courses. You can also choose courses from online offerings. Metropolia gives you a possibility to take individual learning paths to ensure the smooth progress of your studies.
You will study four 15 ECTS courses in the first year and the courses require full-time attendance.
You will choose your major option during your first study year. You may choose the major option out of the four options offered in Information Technology. Starting studies in major option require that you have followed the curriculum as planned and have completed 60 ECTS.
The major option will give you an in-depth insight into the subject areas that are relevant and up-to-date in each major option. You can also extend your knowledge in any other major options by taking it as a minor option in your engineering studies. Major Options and course offerings in Major Options are subject to change.
What lies ahead after graduation?
You can have many different careers and further study paths after your graduation. Your future job may range from systems, software, and hardware design to consulting, product support and management positions.
Many of our graduates also pursue further studies in various Master-level studies in prestigious universities both in Finland and abroad.
Per each degree programme, it is agreed that 50% of the applicants coming outside EU / EEA countries, having the most successful results in the entrance examination, will receive a full exemption from the tuition fee in the first academic year.
During the 2.-4. academic years, a scholarship covering 75% of the yearly tuition fee will be granted provided that the student has accrued:
- a minimum of 55 credits (ECTS) during the previous academic year (ending on 31st July ) in a Bachelor degree programme
- a minimum of 20 credits (ECTS) during the previous semester (autumn semester ending 31.12. and spring semester ending 31.7.) in a Master degree programme
In years 2-4, the remaining 25% of a student’s tuition fee may be waived if the school determines that it is justified based on social, health, or other reasons.
