Program Description

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) was developed following rigorous consultation with industry stakeholders, benchmarking comparative courses within Australia. The program offers an exit point after the first two years at the Associate Degree level.

At the third and fourth year, the program offers specialization in one of its major streams:

  • structural engineering
  • municipal engineering/transportation
  • construction management

Structural Engineering

Within this stream, you will be specializing in the design of concrete, steel and timber structures. Graduates of this stream will have an opportunity to complement the work of Architects in designing large buildings and skyscrapers.

Structural engineers can work in:

  • bridge design
  • highway structures
  • hydraulic structures
  • oil, gas and mineral exploration
  • utilization facilities

Municipal Engineering/Transportation

Within this stream, you will specialize in municipal/transportation engineering.

Municipal engineers are responsible for specifying, designing, constructing and maintaining:

  • public walkways
  • water supplies and drainage networks
  • waste management systems
  • town planning and subdivision

Transportation engineers are responsible for designing, testing and improving transportation systems to avoid traffic congestion and ensure easy flow of traffic through the network.

Construction Management

Within this stream, you will learn more about managing construction projects.

Construction Engineers are often required in the planning, construction, and management of large infrastructure projects such as:

  • highways
  • airports
  • ports and dams
  • bridges
  • mines
  • complex building projects

During the last semester, students will engage in a major project. The project could be a real-life project from industry or a simulated one. Students are required to progress through the steps of formalizing client requirements, developing specifications, conducting literature surveys, develop optimized solutions, detailed design and evaluations.

International Students Entrance Requirements

Academic: Australian Year 12 equivalency or higher, with studies equivalent to VCE Units 3 and 4 in Mathematics Methods (Australian Year 12). English Language: Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or recognized equivalency.
