The degree programme in Environmental Chemistry and Technology provides the student with a wide knowledge in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. You will get a holistic view on life-cycle thinking and material flows in industrial planning and other fields of society.
In your studies you will learn how plants should be planned, automatized and run safely for the environment - minimize environmental impact and methods of cleaning exhaust gases and wastewater as how to plan clean water plants.
Kokkola has the largest concentration of inorganic chemical industries in the northern countries, which gives the students an excellent ground for industrial careers. The graduated engineers usually start their careers as research or development engineers in industrial projects. Some engineers start in production, purchase or sales tasks. National and local environmental authorities need engineers with knowledge of environmental questions. Some of our graduates end up working as teachers in vocational schools.
In the specialisation option Environmental Chemistry and Technology the students will gain education in environmental issues like recycling of materials, production of energy, handling of wastewater, cleaning of air, planning of water plants, environmental management and process planning. The unique Chemplant pilot plant is used for learning of new techniques.
Our other specialisation option is New and Traditional Fuel Production where the students learn about traditional oil refineries, but also about new methods for making renewable biofuels.
