Introduction
Briefly about the programThe program is aimed at those who want to explore textiles and their possibilities of expression and work creatively in relation to body and space. The stage is one of those rooms where you work artistically with a suit, unique garments and clothes seen in a broader perspective. The projects are conducted in an exploratory, reflective way in relation to the present and you place yourself in contexts where experiences, attitudes and new perspectives are developed. Design, crafts and art are related to space, body and identity in dialogue with the textile field. About the educationHow do you relate to the concepts of body and identity? How do you reason about the body as a starting point for an artistic intention? What can it mean to work with textiles in relation to spatial contexts? The first year is largely devoted to exploring textile materials and techniques in independent projects based on different themes. At the same time, you are encouraged to reflect on your relationship to the problems of arts and crafts and design. In the projects, you are stimulated to an exploratory approach in the artistic process and to communicate your choices of methods, both in writing and orally. During the second year, you work in longer projects as you deepen your craft skills and your personal design approach in different contexts and put your work in relation to the present. As you acquire new knowledge, skills and attitudes, gradually higher demands are placed on analysis and in-depth study, as well as planning and implementing projects within given time frames. In the third year, you immerse yourself further in the craft, design and layout as you mainly plan your studies yourself. The content of the projects is designed individually and determined in consultation with the teacher / supervisor. Great emphasis is placed on context analysis, communication and interaction with the outside world. There is also room for internships and exchanges during the year. The spring semester ends with a degree project where you can show your ability to independently pursue an in-depth artistic work. Courses in visual design and communication as well as theory and history take place together with students in the other artistic bachelor's programs at HDK -Valand Steneby. There you develop an exploratory approach to form, material, concept and context and you are trained in communicating visually. After the studiesThe education gives you the conditions to work with suits, unique garments, textile design, arts and crafts in the textile field such as theater, film and spatial projects in public environments. The education also prepares you for further studies at the advanced level. At HDK Valand Steneby, there is an artistic master's program in Applied Art and Design with a focus on Textile - Body - Room. That's how it is to studyThe teaching The studies largely consist of independent projects where you, through supervision both individually and in groups, are encouraged to think new and to work experimentally with techniques and materials. The courses include lectures and application exercises with supervision, workshops and reviews. An important part is the seminars; here the ongoing work is presented and discussed regularly. Through oral and written presentations, you train the ability to critically reflect on your own and others' approach to the subject. Through lecturers, professional guest teachers, as well as external activities such as exhibitions, collaborations, study trips and study visits, you get perspective and inspiration for your work; you put it in relation to our world, present, history and theory. The program is part of the international environment at HDK -Valand near Steneby. The language of instruction is Swedish. Lectures and supervision can be given in English. Premises Surrounded by the beautiful nature in Dals Långed, 170 km north of Gothenburg, is HDK -Valand Steneby. Here you have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in textile techniques such as pattern design, sewing, knitting, weaving, textile printing, embroidery, pleating and dyeing. The workshops employ technicians with long experience who can give you support and advice in your projects. HDK -Valand Steneby also has well-equipped workshops for metal and wood.
