General

Program Description

In addition to meeting the liberal arts core requirements of the University, you must take 29 credits of Art courses and select a 12 credit concentration of Fine Arts, Graphic Design or Pre-art Therapy.

REQUIRED COURSES

  • ART460 - Senior Thesis
  • FA220 - Service in the Arts
  • MED204 - Electronic Media

Fine Arts Concentration

If you are interested in developing skills in drawing, photography and/or painting, this concentration is for you. Along with completing the core Art courses, you will take additional courses focused specifically on enhancing your creative skills and techniques in a specific area.

REQUIRED COURSES

  • ART181 - Photography I: Digital
  • ART260 - Printmaking I
  • MED181 - Photography I: Digital

COMPETENCY

Obtain a Level III competency in either drawing, painting, or printmaking.

  • ART201 - Drawing II
  • ART301 - Drawing III
  • ART241 - Painting II
  • ART340 - Painting III
  • ART261 - Printmaking II
  • ART362 - Printmaking III

Graphic Design Concentration

If you want to gain technique in layout design and computer imaging, consider a concentration in graphic design. Along with completing the core Art courses, you will take courses specifically designed to provide the knowledge and ability to produce design pieces.

REQUIRED COURSES

Complete the following courses:

  • ART221 - Graphic Design: Layout
  • ART331 - Graphic Design: Imaging
  • ART425 - Graphic Design: Advanced Study

ELECTIVE COURSES

Complete three credits from the following:

  • ART181 - Photography I: Digital
  • ART220 - Graphic Design: Typography
  • ART260 - Printmaking I
  • ART329 - Web Design
  • ART395 - Internship

Pre-Art Therapy Concentration

The pre-art therapy program is designed to prepare students for graduate school and certification in art therapy. Students who intend to go to graduate school in art therapy and gain certification are strongly encouraged to double major in art/psychology, with a mental health concentration.
