The textile industry is one of the most innovative and modern industries. It is all about technical textiles that offer a variety of uses with new or substituting functional properties.

For the development of novel products and processes in the field of textile technology, the industry needs engineers with a wide range of knowledge and interdisciplinary skills. In the field of study Textile Engineering, students gain in-depth knowledge along the value chain of the textile industry: from materials, processing technologies and product development to production. This qualifies the graduates for activities in the most diverse departments of a company such as production, quality management or research and development.

In addition to the lectures in the field of textile technology, laboratory exercises are also offered for almost all subject-specific courses. These take place in small groups and enable the use of a varied teaching / learning methodology that combines theory and practice. In the practice-oriented exercises and project work, students learn through methodological approaches to tackle challenges and independently develop solutions. Their ability to work in a team is encouraged and demanded through joint projects and laboratory exercises.

Graduates of the Textile Engineering degree program, who are awarded the title of "Bachelor of Engineering", have a wide range of potential applications not only in textile companies, but also in sectors such as the chemical, automotive, aviation and shoe industries.

The studies

In the field of study Textile Engineering, the students receive in addition to comprehensive engineering and scientific fundamentals well-founded knowledge in the field of textiles, which are complemented by a highly practice-oriented teaching.

Subject-specific topics such as textile raw materials, yarn production, weaving or knitting / knitting and their finishing are treated to the end product. Technical textiles and nonwovens as well as their diverse applications, for example as reinforcement in composite materials in the automotive and aerospace industries, continue to be among the focal points of textile technology.

The knowledge gained in the lecture is put into practice in the many laboratories. In addition to the basic internship in chemistry, textile-specific laboratory events such as "Physical and Chemical Material Testing", "Knitting / Cementing", "Finishing" or "Colorimetry" are offered. In the printing laboratory there are various techniques for printing on textiles, with which the students can print their own designs on eg T-shirts.

Through the practice-oriented project work, students learn to independently solve innovative tasks and become familiar with the preparation of scientific reports.

After the practical phase and the final thesis, students are awarded the title of "Bachelor of Engineering" and may also hold the professional title "Ingenieurin" or "Ingenieur". Our consecutive, English-language master degree program "Product Refinement" enables further qualification up to the doctorate level.

Leatherworking and shoe technology

For the development of innovative products and control of the manufacturing and sales processes in the leather processing industry, experts with a wide range of knowledge and interdisciplinary skills are needed. The internationally oriented course of study KuLT is the only course of study in Germany to train engineers especially for the leather and shoe industry.

In this unique field of study, you learn to develop shoes and other leather articles and to make them yourself. Product development and production, taking into account technical innovations and new materials, are the focus of the study. The basics of technical design are just as much a part of the teaching content as material analysis in chemical and physical materials testing. How a product change on the

Affects people, learn about anatomy and neurobiomechanics. With this knowledge, you are able to control the development and production of innovative products and materials in the leather processing industry.

The graduates of this study program offer a variety of applications in the automotive industry, the sporting goods industry, leather clothing and industrial shoe production. You can apply your knowledge in production, research and development, quality assurance, in product, process and project management as well as in the service sector.

After successfully completing your studies, you will find your employment as a Bachelor of Engineering as an expert with excellent job perspectives in the leather processing industry.

The studies

The demands on the products in harmony with economy and ecology are becoming more and more complex. This results in new tasks that require experts both in the production of end products as well as in material development.

During your studies, you will gain a sound knowledge of how to handle these upcoming tasks. In technical design you will learn to solve complex technical problems and in the ideal case even to produce the prototype. The skills you will learn in the International Shoe Competence Center (ISC), our cooperation partner. Here, the shoe production takes place during the internship in a training center with state-of-the-art production machines. Professors and lecturers teach you, in almost family learning groups, the subject-specific course contents.

Lectures, exercises, internships and excursions provide you with solid knowledge of technical processes, scientific and technical fundamentals, methodological approaches and economic issues. You can work on different tasks in teamwork with your fellow students. The elective courses open up the opportunity for you to acquire specialist knowledge from other fields of study or other degree programs.

Our consecutive English-language master's program "Product Refinement" allows you to further qualify up to the doctorate level.

After the practice phase and the final thesis, you will be awarded the title of "Bachelor of Engineering" and may also hold the job title of Engineer or Engineer.
