Ferrum College Theatre Arts has a strong reputation for excellence in the Performing Arts! We offer the pre-professional Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Acting and Directing, Musical Theatre, and Technical Theatre. The program, emphasizing process drama, gives students opportunities to develop competency as actors, directors, musical theatre performers, technicians, and teachers. Students are led by faculty members that combine years of teaching and professional experience. Majors can expect to receive personal, one-on-one attention necessary for you to develop into well-rounded practitioners of theatre.
We also offer B.A. degrees in Theatre Education and Theatre Arts. The B.A. degree is usually the choice for students that wish to double-major.
Experiential learning is the vibrant hallmark of the program. As many understand, there is no substitute for the theatre production experience. During your four years at Ferrum, Students are immersed in exciting coursework that is reinforced through a variety of production opportunities. Some opportunities may include major productions led by faculty, student productions, dance or choir concerts.
Our department, located in Schoolfield Hall, one of many historic buildings on our beautiful campus. Originally the Chapel (1916) but converted into the performance heart of the college in the mid-1960s undergoing renovations in 1980 and again in 2018. Schoolfield Hall includes the state-of-the-art 278-seat Sale Theatre, 100-seat (Flexible) Black Box Theatre, The Bowman Theatre Student Lounge, scene shop, costume shop, and rehearsal space.
Through internships, summer theatre, dance work, and other opportunities, students will leave Ferrum with professional credits.

Our successful graduates are enjoying satisfying careers and have excelled at the advanced study in higher education. Our graduates have achieved success in a variety of areas within the field of theatre, film, television, and teaching. We boast a graduate who won an EMMY for makeup. Many of our graduates live and work in Hollywood while others prefer to use their talents to take up teaching careers at colleges and universities as well as in the public schools. Some graduates have pursued careers in arts management and others have followed the variety of career paths available to the liberal arts graduate. We have graduates who have used communication and self-expression to become everything from models to ministers, others are published writers, while still others have entered the political arena.
