Introduction
Photographers are storytellers. They communicate in a visual and universal language that preserves the history and captures the human experience. Their record of the world, from the everyday to the extraordinary, documents and distills what it’s like to be us—here and now—our joy, sadness, tragedy, and triumph. Photography moves and connects us in ways that can be more powerful and thought-provoking than words alone.
Why are we fascinated by images? How do professional photographers use them to illustrate ideas, express viewpoints, convey messages, and evoke emotion? Carroll University’s Photography program explores the role of imagery and its meaningful engagement with today’s society. We look at the history, culture, social and technological aspects of communicating visually along with the role of the maker in raising awareness and stimulating thought. You’ll learn how to see the world differently and translate your vision into compelling images that combine advanced artistic and technical skills. Our program offers the depth and breadth of training that prepares you for professional work in a growing field. You’ll find a flexible career path you can create by design, from owning your own studio to traveling the world.
The Pictures That Are Worth a Thousand Words Don't Happen by Accident
While Carroll’s Photography program focuses on digital photography, you’ll have opportunities to experiment and discover a variety of techniques, as well as their application to contemporary photography. You’ll gain expertise in design and composition as it relates to creative expression, work with essential software and design tools, and become skilled in using both natural and studio lighting to their best advantage. You’ll gain knowledge in digital video and storyboarding techniques, and learn how to shoot, enhance audio and edit short works to completion.
You’ll acquire real-world experience through a required internship in professional photography, as well as assignments in portraiture, documentary, motion, fashion, commercial, product, architecture, and travel photography. As a senior, you’ll showcase your knowledge by creating a professional portfolio and website and participating in a gallery exhibition of your work. You’ll graduate prepared to work as a professional photographer in a variety of commercial and fine art settings, or further your education in graduate school.

Scholarships and Funding
The University participates in three types of financial aid programs for its International students: scholarships, grants, and employment.
Scholarships
Carroll University offers completive scholarships for international undergraduate students. 100 percent of Carroll University students receive scholarship assistance, which helps them find a balance between studies, work, and extra-curricular activities. Scholarships play a key role in maintaining Carroll's accessibility for all students. On average our international scholarship covers 45-55% of the cost of attendance for full-time undergraduate students.
Grants
Grants are awarded based upon a student’s demonstrated financial need in addition to the guaranteed International scholarship. Like scholarships, grants are considered gift aid that does not need to be repaid.
Student Employment
University employment opportunities allow students to work part-time on campus, earn an hourly wage and receive a monthly paycheck while attending Carroll. Students may work from approximately five to fourteen hours each week. The number of hours a student may work depends upon the student’s financial aid award. International students get awarded an average of $2,000-$2,500 in university employment grants every year.
