Program Highlights

The Bachelor of Music in Music Performance develops excellence in music performance and prepares you for a career as a professional musical artist or for the private teaching of applied music. Applied areas include: piano, voice, guitar, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, flute, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. This degree provides opportunities to receive one-on-one pedagogical instruction unique to your instrument or voice, perform a junior and senior recital, and take advanced courses in music theory and musicology. In addition, students will receive professional experiences through teaching in the Millikin University Preparatory Department, internships and service learning projects, and opportunities to work as a professional musician in area ensembles.

  • Develop rigorous performance competency (solo and ensemble)
  • Develop extended knowledge in history, theory and conducting
  • Learn pedagogy and literature for the specific applied performance area

The Millikin Music Department offers many avenues for music enthusiasts to grow their skills and advance their career in the music industry. We offer five degree programs, one minor, and a host of instrumental and vocal bands and ensembles. Whether you're pursuing a full-time career in music or just looking to expand your skills through involvement in an ensemble, we have options that will fit your needs and interests.
