Bachelor in Multimedia Computing


Program Description

During the past few years, the field of multimedia computing has been the most dynamic field within the development of computer engineering and has been breaking the records in the number of users and growth rates of employment on a daily basis. On the wave of the development of social networks and mobile smart devices, the demand for different types of multimedia content (video, animation, audio) and systems (web portals, CMS systems, e-commerce) is greatly expanding. Following the trends in hardware sales, where the dominant role has been taken over by mobile computer systems (tablets and smartphones) and the exponential increase in the number of social networks users, we created the first study program in multimedia computing in the Republic of Croatia. A combination of knowledge in most sought-after technologies and prestigious industry certifications will provide multimedia computing engineers significant advantage in career development and employment. This is why the study program in Multimedia Computing provides training in the field of front-end development, development of multimedia solutions and digital contents, web design and internet programming. Additional specialization is possible through elective courses, seminar papers, and final thesis. The study program provides employment opportunities for positions of the system and network administrators.

The total duration of the study program is 3 years or 6 semesters. Each year of study (two semesters) is valued with 60 ECTS credits. During the final sixth semester, students prepare their final paper/project which is carried out as a part of their professional practice and rated at 12 ECTS credits. The total number of ECTS credits required to complete the study program and obtain a diploma is 180 credits.

The study program is organized in study years. A necessary condition for the enrolment in the next year of study is the completion of the previous year, i.e. the completion of exams of the previous year in the minimum number of ECTS credits prescribed by the Book of regulations on study (it is not necessary to pass all exams). Students enroll in the next year of study in the winter semester, and enrolment in the summer semester of the same year is carried out automatically. The obligations of students for each particular course are determined by the teacher in charge of the course and announced before the beginning of classes within the digital student service system.


The professional study program is completed by passing all exams and acquiring a minimum of 180 ECTS credits including the completion of professional practice and preparation of the final paper. The professional title acquired is in accordance with Article 74 of the Act on Scientific Activity and Higher Education, consolidated text (Official Gazette, No. 123/03, 198/03, 105/04, 174/04, 02/07, 46/07, 45/09, 63/11, 94/13, 139/13 and 101/14) and the Act on Academic and Professional Titles and the Academic Degree (Official Gazette, No. 107/07 and 118/12).

By completing their studies, students acquire the professional title of Bachelor of Computer Engineering in corresponding sub-specialization, which corresponds to the degree of Baccalaureus, B.Comp.Eng.

The list of jobs for which students are qualified is defined through the analysis of employers’ needs for particular positions advertised in this field. In doing so, it is especially taken into account which positions employers are looking for at a particular level of education.


Positions for which students who completed the professional undergraduate study program in multimedia computing are qualified to represent a wide range of multimedia professions with a solid basic knowledge of computer engineering. These include the following:


  1. IT engineer, expert on IPTV and professional audio/video systems
  2. IT engineer, expert on digital video and audio mastering
  3. IT engineer, expert on digital video and audio distribution
  4. Engineer for development of 3D models, animation, and visualization
  5. Engineer for design and maintenance of multimedia internet portals
  6. Engineer for development and implementation of interactive internet websites
  7. Engineer for design and distribution of multimedia contents through various media


  1. Web designer / web programmer
  2. Facilitator of multimedia projects
  3. Consultant for implementation of multimedia contents in IT systems

The structure of elective courses enables students to specialize. In that sense, jobs for which students will be qualified after graduation largely depend on the choice of passed courses.


The list of jobs for which students of the professional undergraduate study program in multimedia computing are qualified partially depends on the choice of elective courses. Overall, they can include:

  • planning and development of internet applications based on web technology and social networks,
  • understanding of methods of sales and marketing through the aspect of social networks and internet marketing,
  • implementation of knowledge adopted on the use of multimedia contents in order to improve the user experience of web portals and websites,
  • planning and implementation of e-business techniques in web projects,
  • knowledge of ergonomics of software solutions,
  • maintenance of professional systems for audio and video production and distribution,
  • digital audio and video editing and post-production,
  • development of 3D computer models and animations,
  • participation in application development projects with knowledge of methodology,
  • preparing documentation for IT projects based on familiar grounds,
  • understanding of market operations, management and business organization at the level of department or small business.
