Bachelor in Mechatronics

Okan University

Okan University, one of the most eminent and distinguished foundation universities in Turkey, is home to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body of 14,000. Currently, Okan University has students from 43 different countries. It offers more than 138 undergraduate and graduate programs. The University comprises six faculties, two applied sciences schools, and three graduate schools. The university also offers a variety of two-year associate degree programs that correspond to the in-demand vocational opportunities.

The new global business era of borderless business relations demands a new set of engineering competencies. Okan University Mechatronic Engineering Undergraduate Program, having revised its programs accordingly, offers a rich selection of concentration areas in order to meet the unique career needs of our students. Our world-class faculty members from diverse backgrounds provide a balance of theory and practice in the execution of the curriculum.

We place great emphasis on developing “learning to learn” skills of our students to equip them with the ability to stay competitive in their careers. Strategic, innovative, systems and critical thinking schemes are essential components of our curriculum, providing broad managerial competencies as well as the required tools, techniques and resources for our students to succeed in the global world of engineering and related business. Mechatronics engineering is the design of computer-controlled electromechanical systems. It can be viewed as 'modern mechanical engineering design' in the sense that the design of the mechanical system must be performed together with that of the electrical/electronic and computer control aspects that will comprise the complete system.

Some examples of mechatronic systems include: a CD or DVD player; a computer hard disc drive; a video cassette recorder (VCR); a fly-by-wire aircraft control system; and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). Each of these products is essentially mechanical in nature, but could not function without the integral design of the electrical and computer control systems that are critical to their operation.

The Mechatronics program at Okan University differs very significantly from the Mechanical Engineering program in the courses that students take. Half of the second and third-year courses in the Mechatronics program are provided by the Systems Design Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering departments. This makes the Mechatronics program the ideal choice for students who would prefer a broad interdisciplinary engineering education that is nonetheless highly integrated and focused. The graduates of the program will be endowed with a profound understanding of the mechatronics as an engineering system as a whole. These graduates, having gone through an additional and focused training, are likely to occupy key positions in the industry in the long term.

We would like our students to consider Okan University Mechatronic Engineering Undergraduate Program as an investment to gain a competitive professional edge and enjoy a successful career life. Our evening and weekend classes are designed to facilitate time management of a professional life combined with graduate education.
