Practical is the keyword: learning by doing! Circa 60% of the International Business Management bachelor programme has a practical focus. The curriculum was designed in collaboration with trade associations such as Sales Management Association, Thuiswinkel.org and experts with a wealth of practical experience. With the professorship, Tio stays ahead of the competition when it comes to e-business. This ensures the study programme ties in well with the sector’s needs and the latest trends.
The curriculum is divided into four components: financial expertise, business & entrepreneurship, international management, communication and internship & final thesis.
Given the importance of having international experience, you complete at least one component of your study programme abroad (e.g. an internship, graduation project or an international exchange programme).
You learn to negotiate and you keep a close eye on global trade. You learn to understand macro-economic changes during a management game held in a real-life environment. You will also create your own portfolio of stocks and shares during the Stocks & bonds project. The student with the highest returns compete in the finals. You visit domestic and foreign listed businesses such as banks or car manufacturers. The management game helps you make decisions pertaining to finance and HR.
Business & Entrepreneurship
You master the art of sales and giving product presentations with the help of role-playing scenarios. You learn to conduct business with other cultures.
You set up a business together with your team: you brainstorm about market opportunities, conduct market research and sell your product both on- and offline so you can pay out a nice sum in revenue to your shareholders. You draw up a business plan for your own international business.
You will be broadly educated at Tio. That means that besides professional knowledge you also acquire general knowledge in the field of human resource management, management skills and entrepreneurship. During the international study trip, you visit a partner university and various international businesses. You are taught by international guest lecturers and the schedule includes several lectures and excursions.
Learning how to communicate gets much attention. Through role-playing you practice your languages and learn to do business with other cultures.
Internship & final thesis
During the two (international) internships, you will apply what you have learned into practice. Everything comes together in your final thesis.
Some subjects and courses listed below are optional and therefore not mandatory. Exceptions are the Introduction to Economics and Introduction to Finance & Accounting courses, which are mandatory for students whose prior education does not include Economics and Management & Organisation.

This International Business Management (IBM) bachelor programme has been accredited by the NVAO and educate students in three or four years for the internationally recognised title of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) (ISAT-code: 34144). IBM is partly based on the International Business (IB) profile level of professional competence, supplemented with e-commerce.
Below, you will find an overview of the admission requirements for the bachelor programme International Business Management, with which you can determine whether you can start this unique bachelor programme.
- Havo, vwo (any profile), mbo4-diploma.
- Comparable diploma, e.g.: German Fachhochschulreife or Abitur (algemeine Hochschulreife), British GCE A-levels, French Baccalaureat, American High School (incl. a college preparatory programme) or secondary business education.
- CEFR: ≥ B2. TOEFL: iBT ≥ 75-80 points (Institutional TOEFL code Tio: 4764). IELTS academic: ≥ 6.0. Cambridge exam: ≥ 160 points / Cambridge First Certificate.
- For students who have not previously studied Management & Organisation, the preparation course Introduction to finance & accounting (FA) is mandatory.
- For students whose prior education did not include economics, the preparation course Introduction to economics is mandatory.
After we receive your registration, Tio will send you a written confirmation of your admission (provided that you meet the pre-education requirements and there is no waiting list). If your pre-education is insufficient for the programme you wish to take, we will schedule an interview and an assessment. The assessment costs € 80. The admissions committee will decide whether you can be admitted into the programme.
Register on time
Tio’s programmes are popular and the number of available positions is limited. Every year, this leads to waiting lists. If you are sure about your choice, you should enrol as soon as possible. Positions are assigned in the order in which students register .
Selection and draw
Tio’s selection process is based on whether students meet their prior education requirements and timely registration. Tio does not select students by lots.
You will be invited to an introductory interview with your study coach before the start of your education at Tio.
