Fashion Design runs the gamut from eveningwear to sportswear, women’s wear to men’s wear and kids wear to knit wear. Students are asked to choose their area of interest and sharpen their creative ideas. They are introduced to various historic fashion and art movements and taught how these influence contemporary fashion. Fashion Design runs the gamut from eveningwear to sportswear, womenswear to menswear, and kidswear to knitwear. Students are asked to choose their area of interest and sharpen their creative ideas. Students are also introduced to various historic fashion and art movements as exemplars and how these influence contemporary fashion. The main focal point of the course is to provide a graduate learning pathway through distinct levels of subject competencies and differentiated areas of in depth learning in the field of apparel fashions and design. It shall nurture the personal creativity of the students, and encourage innovations in design thinking to develop as an autonomous learner, thinker and practitioner. It will also motivate the students to develop intellectual and critical thinking in their work through rigorous research enquiry, evaluation and application.
At the starting of the course, the main aim is to break inhibition and to encourage unlearning of set ways, experiencing and sensitizing the senses for design learning. The students are encouraged to learn and develop sensitivity to take up the challenges to demonstrate their personal design philosophy. They are given exposure to different areas of design and will be learning design vocabulary which will become important learning for their core discipline areas. The students shall be able to explore learning opportunities that expose students to all facets of the fashion industry and fashion value chain and Craft exposure and learning that can be integrated with mainstream designing.
At intermediate level, the course shall build In-depth understanding and specialization for Fashion manipulation and related technical skills to enable design and process development of varied apparel categories which shall be facilitated through Industry internships, exposure through industry projects and continuous interaction with industry experts and professionals in class-room environment and professional context. At advanced level of the study, it will provide industry relevant, collaborative and / or independent working opportunities, through Independent individual projects and modular workshops to enhance the awareness and professional development as a critically reflective practitioner of the broader aspects of the creative apparel industry from design, production and market viability in the context of socio-political and cultural environment.
Finally, this course shall be instrumental in developing the required skills, abilities and confidence to be prepared for employment, entrepreneurial and professional opportunities or to access postgraduate studies and further research.
