The first semesters of the Bachelor's programme “Energy Engineering and Management" and “Environmental Engineering and Management” provide the basic theoretical background in core areas essential for a future career as an engineer in the industrial fields of energy or environmental engineering. Graduates will be qualified to analyze procedures and problems of business practice, to find economically justified solutions by also considering non-business relations.
The programme carefully balances modules in business administration, fundamentals of energy/environmental engineering as well as modules in advanced technology areas. Special emphasis is placed on a solid background in engineering foundations, business administration, energy/environmental technology, with special emphasis on the core area of study selected: Heating, cooling and automation technologies and energy systems engineering (Energy Engineering and Management) as well as on renewable energy production, air pollution control and waste management processes (Environmental Engineering and Management).
Building on the basic general background in energy/environmental and economic topics obtained during the first semesters, the programme of study provides in-depth knowledge and professional skills in important areas of industrial production processes, energy distribution and environmentally relevant technologies. In accordance with the interdisciplinary character of the programme, a combination of energy/environmental engineering and business administration is offered each semester.
The Graduates attain the necessary knowledge and abilities to review the interrelations between the technical and business administration areas and work on a job oriented and interdisciplinary basis. They will be qualified for professional careers in the fields of development, production, service, maintenance, and sales of products and solutions and as well as to provide environmentally relevant solutions in environmental agencies as environmental protection officers. Graduates will also possess the competencies and skills required in project management to take up responsibilities as lower-level executives in small and medium-sized companies.
The programme’s objective is not only to provide the graduates with a basic professional qualification but also to enable them for further graduate studies (i.e. master studies).
Participants have to complete course elements (modules) with an overall workload of 210 credit points (CP) including the bachelor's thesis (12 CP). Each Module ends with an examination, either as a written exam (knowledge verification), oral examination, project work (team working, project management and documentation) or term paper (knowledge application, scientific work). Finally, students complete their studies with a practical and research-oriented Bachelor thesis (scientific work) and a thesis defense (scientific disputation of the Bachelor's thesis).
