Are you an inquisitive person who is passionate about electronics and enjoys disassembling electronic devices to discover how they work? The Electronics major will immerse you in a variety of projects and laboratory work. You will learn to analyse and solve problems, specializing In either hardware or software. The ‘hardware track’ will teach you how to design, develop and produce your own embedded hardware in our Embedded Factory. In the ‘software track,’ you will learn how to create your own applications, gain experience in programming microcontrollers and get a general overview of the world of electronics.

Or, on the other hand, are you a more creative mind interested in tackling challenging problems within ICT systems? In our ICT major, you will spend the first year building a solid foundation – learning about programming languages and the configuration, installation, and management of computers. In the second year, choose one of three expert tracks: Applied Artificial Intelligence, Application Development, and Security, Systems & Services. Finally, you will apply your knowledge to the real world, with a bachelor’s thesis and an (international) internship, topped off by an intensive entrepreneurship course.

Electronics

You’re passionate about smart electronics. You’re inquisitive and enjoy disassembling electronic devices to discover how they work. You want to immerse yourself in the high-tech world of electronics.

This programme will keep you on your toes. The theory is immediately put into practice. Expect a variety of projects and practice enterprise labs from the very start. This way, you will learn to analyse and solve problems while designing, developing and even producing new electronic devices.

Both your theoretical and hands-on classes will be taught fully in English, giving you the tools to learn the language in a practical way - an important asset in the sector!

Want to specialise in Hardware? Then, you will learn to design, develop and produce your own embedded hardware in our unique Embedded Factory. You will design electrical circuits from scratch and develop your own hardware, web applications, and mobile solutions. Discover how professional audio and video are created.

Are you more into Software? Learn to create your own applications. You will build analog and digital circuits, gain experience in programming micro-controllers and get a general view of the world of electronics. The world of smart electronics will be at your fingertips!

All of this hard work will culminate in an (international) final traineeship and Bachelor’s thesis in the third year.

Brand new Makerspace

In our brand new Makerspace, you can do some experimenting yourself, try out technological marvels, build your first prototype or even produce in small volumes. In this workshop, we provide all kinds of machines, materials, and tools. Imagine a room full of 3D printers, laser cutters and milling machines: you’ll find it all!

Embedded factory

Campus De Nayer is the only university of applied sciences in Flanders that has an Embedded Factory Lab with CAD tools, a Pick & Place machine, reflow ovens, drying cabinets, professional soldering stations and visual inspection equipment – state-of-the-art-devices that you will also come across later in your workspace. Thanks to this unique infrastructure, you will have all the necessary tools to turn an idea into an excellent end product.

KNX certification

KNX technology is the worldwide standard for home and building automation and is used in areas such as lighting, security, water control, energy management, and consumer electronics. You can even obtain a KNX certificate during your course and add an extra asset to your CV!

ICT

Trends in ICT systems are really your thing. You enjoy tackling challenging problems and using your creativity to do so. You’re up for studying in English, the language of IT!

The first phase of this programme offers a solid ICT basis. You will learn various programming languages and dig deeper into configuring, installing and managing computers. In the second phase, you will choose from three expert tracks: Applied Artificial Intelligence, Application Development, and Security, Systems & Services.

If you choose the Artificial Intelligence track, you’ll go well beyond the basics, exploring a variety of different AI programmes and applications. Do you prefer developing web applications and mobile applications? Then choose Application Development! The SS&S track will give you in-depth expertise about ICT, servers, networks and associated security. You’ll immerse yourself in setting up all kinds of advanced services, both locally and in the cloud.

In the final phase, you’ll be fully equipped for the real business world. Your bachelor’s thesis and (international) internship are key. You will also take a course in Entrepreneurship, in which you and your team draw up a business plan for a project of your choice. Yes, you can!

    you need to be reasonably proficient at speaking and writing English (level B2, European Framework).
  • Additional requirements for abridged programmes and postgraduates:

Immigration and visas in Belgium

  • Students coming from the European Economic Area, Monaco or Switzerland can enroll in an undergraduate degree programme in Belgium without a student visa.
  • All other students need to apply for a visa before coming to Belgium. You can apply at the Belgian Consulate or Embassy in your country or in the country where you legally reside.
