The Don Vasco University began its activities in 1964, as the Don Vasco Cultural Institute, A.C. The priest José Luis Sahagún de la Parra, the priest Gonzalo Gutiérrez Guzmán and the Lic. Rafael Anaya González, promoted the university project.
In the first five years, they founded junior high and high school. In the 1970s, the first professional schools that offered their educational services to the inhabitants of the region were Administration, Accounting, and Architecture. In 1985 they opened studies in Social Work and Planning for Agricultural Development.
