History - HIT
1920 HIT was founded.
1924 Engineers first graduated from HIT.
1949 HIT post-graduate program was developed.
1950 The Central Government recruited talented students and lectures to HIT, 1 of the 2 universities modeled on the former Soviet Union. Identified as 1 of the 6 key national universities; the only one outside of Beijing.
1960 HIT had 800 academic staff, 800 students, 67 former Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia experts.
1984 HIT was 1 of the 15 universities to receive the central government support and preferential development.
1996 HIT became a charter member of Project 211.
1999 HIT became a charter member of Project 985, and 1 of the 9 key national universities to be preferentially developed to achieve the standards of internationally-renowned word-class universities.
2009 HIT became a charter member of China University Union (C9).
