About the department
Students are admitted to this four-year-undergraduate program with their MF-4 points in YGS. The Department of Architecture requires a strong content knowledge of mathematics, geometry and real interest in visual arts and philosophy. Courses in four different fields such as architectural design and building information, history of architecture, environmental control and construction technologies, project construction and management are offered to the students in depth. Students create and present project with this knowledge at laboratories and workshops in each semester. This means that students actively participate in their education process. It is aimed to provide our students with skills like designing all kinds of construction, designing places, producing the objects which users need, technical training about planning and coordinating the construction processes as well as skills of self-improvement based on art and culture, and skills of solving problems about the job.
The construction sector is the leading sector in the country's economy along with the other sectors that it affects. Architects can choose places and do a feasibility study for the real estate investment companies; be assigned in every stage of designing, cost management, and production in broad sense; coordinate all the disciplines in the process of using the designed product; conduct commitment issues, field control, and consultation services; sell and do marketing for construction materials; work as academicians in an academic environment; work in organization and publishing business in architecture and art fields. Architects can work in public institutions such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, Ministry of Development, municipalities as well as in private sector for commitment, designing, real estate improvement firms, and they can also open their own business and work as freelancers. With the rising trend of gentrification, new employment areas have been created for architects.
The curriculum of the Department of Architecture offers courses that give the information that can be used in every stage of professional life. Basics of designing, computer-assisted design, building information, structure information, technologies of architecture, architectural design, construction materials, architectural project, building survey, protection- restoration, zoning law, architectural construction project are the core courses of the department. Many elective courses about specific areas are offered to students as well.
