Program Description

Are you eager to find digital solutions to real (international) issues? Do you aim to be a pioneer in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Business Intelligence?

Join Thomas More’s Applied Computer Science program, and become an expert in the fascinating world of technology used to capture, manage, visualize and analyze ‘big data’. This technology will allow you to replace existing, often inefficient, business processes with new technologies. With this goal in mind, students dive right into the wonderful world of Python, Java, Artificial Intelligence, SharePoint, Big Data, ASP.NET, etc.

To learn ICT, you just have to ‘do’ it. For this reason, you will be immersed in group work and projects throughout the program.

Do you see yourself working for Google, Facebook, Accenture, IBM, Deloitte... we will prepare you. Thanks to our close contacts with the professional sector, many of these assignments are presented and coached by partners in the field.

  • You want to be a pioneer in Artificial Intelligence and Application Development.
  • You want to be the missing link between real-life problems and digital solutions.
  • You want to improve inefficient processes and programs.
  • You want to learn a broad range of programming languages, such as Python, PHP, Java, React, WSP.NET and more.
  • You want to take the lead in reshaping the world as we know it with technological innovations.
  • The IT Factory is a unique collaboration between the Applied Computer Science (both English and Dutch) and Electronics-ICT (Dutch only) programs. After the first phase, you’ll get to choose a specialized track: Artificial Intelligence, Application Development, Cloud & Cyber Security or Internet of Things. We’ve got it all.

Overview

Phase 1

In the first phase of our IT Factory, you’ll become acquainted with the IT world and acquire a thorough knowledge of the different IT domains. You’ll learn to develop applications in Python and Java and become an expert in web design. You’ll analyze data with SQL and develop a solid foundation in computer networks and operating systems.

You’ll learn by doing and immediately apply the newly acquired knowledge and skills in various projects. This way, you won’t only acquire technical expertise but also communication skills and soft skills.

Phase 2

In the second phase, you’ll gain insight into the relationship between IT and business, learning to translate your client’s wants and needs into concrete models.

In addition, you’ll practice object-oriented analysis and acquire in-depth knowledge of PHP, Java, WPF, ASP.Net, MVC, and Cordova. You’ll learn to replace existing, often inefficient business processes with new technologies in order to create services that meet your customer's needs.

Phase 3

In the third phase, you’ll become an expert in the fascinating world of state-of-the-art technology. Capture, manage, visualize and analyze object-oriented ‘big data’. This technology will allow you to replace existing, often inefficient, business processes with new technologies. With this goal in mind, you’ll be immersed in the wonderful world of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Business Intelligence.

Internship

In the period from March to May of phase 3, you will complete a thirteen-week internship in a company or organization. Thanks to our close collaborations with a variety of companies, you’ll get to choose from a wide range of challenging internship projects.

Do you dream of an internship abroad? We have partners in countries including Ireland, Portugal, Crete, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Brazil, and Thailand.

Personal coaching

In the IT Factory, we look beyond your technical background, focusing on the development of your professional skills as well (21st-century skills).

In the first phase, you’ll be assigned a personal coach who will follow your study path and give tips along the way. We'll coach you from day 1 until your graduation.

Go international

We encourage you to get outside your comfort zone. A foreign study or internship experience broadens your view of the world, teaching you how to be independent, improve your language skills and internationalize your professional knowledge. Not to mention, it is without a doubt a fantastic experience and an extra asset on the job market!

In our programs, we work together with partner schools in Ireland, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, where you can take courses in English during the first semester of phase 3.
