Bachelor in Advertising, Public Relations and Media (BA)

BA Advertising, Public Relations and Media degree with Honours is unique in that it will provide you with an excellent grounding in the key areas of both the advertising and public relations industries. Being the two most closely aligned areas of communication, and central to the operations of media, cultural and other industries, a degree in this subject will lead to many exciting career opportunities.

The degree blends media theory with specific industry practices, from planning PR and advertising campaigns to the critical reflection on the role and influence of these practices among different industries, audiences and the contemporary media.

The media department regularly hosts events and lectures with high profile industry speakers, and the BA Advertising, PR, and Media have a dedicated speaker programme: ‘from the coalface to the classroom’. Our guest speaker network includes representatives from BMB, Iris Digital, Grey, Wieden + Kennedy, Edelman PR, Chime, Plane Stupid, The Sync Agency, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Save the Children, Macmillan, Sky and Rapha.

As the UK hub of the advertising and PR industries, London offers excellent placement opportunities. Students on the course have secured placements across a wide range of companies and organizations, from agencies such as Frank PR, BMB, Saatchi and Saatchi to broadcast networks such as the BBC, ITV, MTV, as well as ‘client-side’ PR and marketing departments from the fashion industry to the charity sector.

You'll work closely with our tutors, who include leading academic researchers as well as journalists, editors, experts in PR and advertising, and be fully supported in the development of your knowledge of the media as well as specific and transferable skills that will prepare you equally well for postgraduate work and your future career.

Students on BA Advertising, PR and Media benefit from the full range of resources in the £80 million Art, Design and Media complex The Grove, including TV and radio studios and state of the art editing and digital publishing labs.

Entry Requirements


We normally make offers on a minimum of 280 UCAS tariff points, plus GCSE English Language at grade C. BTEC National Diploma/International Baccalaureate/Advanced Progression Diplomas at equivalent tariff. Access to HE - Pass. Applications from candidates without formal qualifications are welcomed.

International Entry Requirements

We accept the equivalent of the above from a recognized overseas qualification.


English language requirements for international students

You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.0 (with minimum 5.5 in all four components) or TOEFL internet based 72 (with at least 17 in listening & writing, 20 in speaking and 18 in reading).
