The bachelor's degree in psychology is cultural and social science-oriented and provides a basic education with insights into many different research and practical fields of scientific psychology, which prepares for advanced master's courses as well as for the constantly increasing demands of the job market. What distinguishes the study of psychology at SFU?All courses of study at the Faculty of Psychology are based on the same principles, objectives and values: The basic training (Bachelor's and Master's courses) is practice-oriented and, as far as possible, takes place directly after the existing practice and care facilities. All courses with a practice character are carried out in small groups. The open-door policy at the Faculty of Psychology guarantees that students will receive individual support from professors and assistants, which is geared towards personal support.
Studying psychology prepares you for a wide range of career opportunities. This wide range of career prospects corresponds to a wide range of research-supported and research-led teaching, especially in the basic studies. In order to promote the willingness for interdisciplinarity right from the start, courses are also offered in subjects that are directly related to psychology: sociology, political science, historical anthropology, economics, etc. Compared to the primarily scientifically oriented courses at the state Austrian and German universities and Universities, the curricula of the psychology courses at the Faculty of Psychology are much more oriented towards the reception of social, cultural and humanities approaches.Orientation of the bachelor's degree in psychology at the SFU towards the reform of psychotherapy training in GermanyAfter the reform of psychotherapy training in Germany, students who, after completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, are aiming for a master’s degree in psychotherapy must complete a prescribed number of courses that are intended to prepare them for the future profession of psychotherapist as part of the bachelor’s degree.
