The Faculty of Economics and Development received from CENCO the mission to train cadres capable of promoting in a Christian spirit the development actions in the country and to study scientifically the social problems and to make operational the solutions envisaged on the basis The social teaching of the Church and the basic options of the National Episcopal Conference of the Congo in this matter.
The basic studies are spread over five years, ie 3 years of graduate and 2 years of license. The Faculty of Economics and Development has a Professionalization Office whose main tasks are: - to make contacts with companies for guided tours of students; - to plan student internships in companies; - maintaining permanent links and public relations with companies; - organizing extension questions: publication of leaflets presenting the Faculty, newsletters on professional activities, editing of radio and television broadcasts, etc .; - co-ordinate computerized data banks on development research and supervise students in their learning of computer tools; - organize seminars and symposia planned by the Faculty; - serve as consulting expertise or consulting engineer. The centralization of information on companies and dioceses will be a prerequisite for feasibility studies; - to serve as a relay for students between them on the one hand, and between teachers, students and outside people on the other hand, through the service of extension, transmission of theories, initiation to others Methods of agricultural extension in organizations such as the World Bank, etc. ; - to create a placement service for graduates and an alumni association of the Faculty to exchange creative ideas for companies and to know what these graduates do in working life; - promote action research.
The Faculty of Economics and Development also has an Observatory of Political Economy and Human Development, which pursues the following objectives: - establishment of a laboratory and data base on human development and the fight against poverty; - organization of the workshops on the basis of the pre-selected working documents, some of which will be selected for publication; - organization of refresher courses in Belgium for professors who are well advanced in the preparation of articles related to the annual themes of the Observatory; - supervision at the local level of PhD students benefiting from the financing of the VLIR, within the framework of the own initiative project between the IPGD / AU and the EDF / EDF.
