Program Description

Objectives and competencies

  • Preparation of licensed professionals with training in Animal Science, particularly in the fields of biotechnology, animal production, food safety, wildlife resource management and applied research capacity;
  • Knowing the characteristics of different species and breeds and conditioning factors of welfare in farm animals, company or natural environment;
  • Master the techniques of molecular genetics and biotechnology at the service of Animal Science;
  • Integrate quantitative aspects of biostatistics and information technology in Animal Science;
  • Assess the nutritional needs of animals, combined with the technologies of vegetable production and food resources;
  • Integrating aspects of animal biology with environmental quality, biosafety, infeciologia and Immunology;
  • To enable the use of tools at the service of conservation of genetic resources, integrated into the overall agro-ecosystem.

  • Livestock enterprises, particularly in the poultry sector, sheep farming, goat rearing, cattle farming, pig farming, aquaculture, beekeeping, or production of alternative species like Snail farming or hunting;

A Escola Superior Agrária de Viseu (ESAV), criada oficialmente em 19 de Dezembro de 1994 (DL n.º 304/94), é uma das unidades orgânicas do Instituto Politécnico de Viseu, integrando-se na rede de ensino superior público português, ao nível do ensino politécnico. Assim deu-se continuidade à tradição, pois a Cidade de Viseu teve o privilégio de ser pioneira no Ensino Agrícola em Portugal através da criação da Escola Prática de Agricultura de Viseu, por Decreto de 16 de Dezembro de 1852.
