Program Description

BTech Honours Architectural Technology (Applied Design)

This program aims to produce candidates for registration as Senior Architectural Technologists, an upper mid-level registration category defined by the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (S.A.C.A.P.). The program carries S.A.C.A.P., R.I.B.A. and C.A.A. Part 1 accreditation.

The program focuses on architectural design, design theory and design development and is primarily intended for students who, during their diploma studies, have displayed a talent for design and who wish to further develop this ability, with a view to register as Professional Senior Architectural Technologists or continue with studies to qualify as Professional Architects or who wish to practice independently.

After two years as a Candidate Senior Technologist, as well as passing the S.A.C.A.P. qualifying examination, candidates are eligible to register as Professional Senior Architectural Technologists.

Admission requirements

A National Diploma: Architectural Technology from an Architectural Department that carries Part 1 accreditation from The South African Council for the Architectural Profession, or an equivalent qualification at an equivalent standard, as determined by the Departmental Committee.

At the discretion of the Head of Department, candidates may be required to register for and pass bridging modules for admission to the Baccalaureus Technologiae: Architectural Technology (Applied Design).

BTech Honours Architectural Technology (Management)

This program aims to provide an opportunity for Architectural Technologists who wish to continue their studies, in order to advance their career opportunities in this capacity.

The program focuses on the administration and management of architectural practices, projects, housing, urban resources and development.

Admission requirements

A National Diploma: Architectural Technology, or a National Higher Diploma: Architecture, or an equivalent qualification at an equivalent standard, as determined by the Departmental Committee.

At the discretion of the Head of Department, candidates may be required to register for and pass bridging modules for admission to the Baccalaureus Technologiae: Architectural Technology (Management).

  2. The program is offered both full-time and part-time.
  3. Minimum duration: One year full-time, two years part-time.
  4. Number of modules in the program: Five year-modules.

Registration and Start Dates

Registration starts in January and lectures in February for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate course work programmes.

All research programmes for Masters and PhD can register throughout the year.

End Date: Academic starts in January and ends in December. Programme deadline is determined by the duration of the programme.
