Through an agreement with Universal Helicopters Inc. (UHI), students in the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science (Rotary Wing) program receive flight training at the UHI Center of Excellence facility at Prescott’s Love Field Airport. Students will study aviation safety, environmental operations, crew resource management, flight management systems, flight planning, and advanced helicopter operations. Specific topics will include low-level flight planning, mountain flight, night-vision device operation, operations in adverse weather, and the management of operations, training, personnel, and maintenance. Our graduates possess flying skills and aeronautical knowledge that far exceeds the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Facilities and Equipment

The Department of Aviation has some of the finest facilities available to prepare students for positions in aviation both on campus and at UCM's Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport. The university owns 18 flightready aircraft including: a fleet of Cessna 172 Skyhawks, multi-engine aircraft, and gliders are available for flight training. In addition, the university has a hot-air balloon, which may be used to earn a rating. The department's flight simulation equipment includes several advanced aviation flight training devices: including a 737NG AAFD in the TR Gaines Technology Building.
