Main study topics are chemistry and toxicology. The chemical part prioritizes analytical chemistry that is based on knowledge of basic, inorganic, organic, bioorganic, physical chemistry and biochemistry. The toxicological part is based on anatomy and physiology of human, microbiology and molecular biology. Student is familiarized with basics of metabolism and toxic effects of inorganic/organic compounds or natural compounds on living organisms. The food safety subjects are optional and pointed towards food safety control. The chemical and toxicological subjects are complemented by informatics and English focused on natural sciences. The study is finished by the state exam in toxicological and analytical oriented topics and defence of a diploma thesis. Applicant profile A graduate from high school should have knowledge of chemistry at the high school level. Entrance exam Entrance examination in chemistry at the high school level of knowledge for all applicants consists of a written part. The written part consists of 20 items. Absolvent profile Graduated bachelor is analytical chemist with advanced knowledge of toxicology and English. The Systematic Biology and Ecology degree program is mainly focused on systematics and phylogenesis of plant and animal organisms and their ecology. Graduates gain necessary knowledge in general biological disciplines, e.g. cellular and molecular biology, the anatomy and morphology of plants, general zoology, systematics and phylogenesis of plants and animals, physiology and ecology of plants and animals, genetics and microbiology. Teaching activities and research work at the Department of Biology are focused on botanics and protection of the environment, biology and animal ecology, and experimental biology. The DB educates experts who can then find a job in state institutions dealing with environment and protection of nature, in research and service laboratories focused on biology and ecology, in cultural and educational institutions focused on ecological education and scientific activities. The Systematic Biology and Ecology degree program is mainly focused on systematics and phylogenesis of plant and animal organisms and their ecology. The research activities of the Department are supported by many indigenous and foreign grants, as well as by cooperation with a number of colleges and scientific establishments. Among the main research interests in botanics are floristics and phytocenology, mapping and monitoring of vegetation, species protection and saving programs for critically endangered species. Within a long-term cooperation with KRNAP (the Krkonoše Mountains National Park) researches on the Krkonoše tundra have been carried out.
