A Bachelor of Science is an undergraduate degree in one of the many areas of study related to science, mathematics, or engineering. Achieved through a combination of lectures and lab work, these degrees often provide a good overview of the subject matter and introduces important skills and topics that students can further refine though postgraduate work.
Those who want to know the answer to the question, what is a BSc in Mathematics must first understand how broad the field of mathematics study is. Mathematics covers multiple disciplines, all of which are large and complex in their own right. Choosing a Bachelor in Mathematics over a Bachelor in Calculus or Statistics allows students an overview of many different types of math. They can then see how different disciplines intersect and can be used to build on one another.
A Bachelor of Math is often the preferred choice for students who want to focus on number theory rather than applied mathematics. The diverse course of study is a good way for students to familiarize themselves with all the mathematical tools at their disposal.
The cost of a Bachelor in Mathematics varies from institution to institution. This degree generally takes four years to complete, but some schools offer fast-tracks that allow students to finish in three.
Graduates with a Bachelor in Mathematics can pursue either research or teaching positions. Researchers tend to work in private or government labs, while teachers who do not pursue postgraduate studies generally work at the primary or secondary education level.
Many institutions around the world offer a Bachelor in Mathematics program with the opportunity for students to get their degree online. Online study means that location is not an issue in finding the program that is right for you. You have probably recently studied maths at school. You may have learnt formulas and how to apply them, how to draw graphs and how to calculate areas and volumes. How did you know that the formulas would work? Who was the first person to use that formula – and how did they know it would work?
Studying Mathematics at degree-level is about much more than just applying what you already know to a series of problems. It is a creative, investigative subject where you will push the boundaries of what is possible to achieve through thinking and then apply it to the world.
Our Honours course in Mathematics is designed to be intellectually stimulating and vocationally relevant. This course will appeal to students who like to tackle real-world challenges through the intellectual rigour and purity of approach that is inherent in mathematics. The programme will develop your skills in pure and applied aspects of the subject to an advanced level, combining these with training in probability, advanced statistics and data analysis. In your final year of study, you will tackle a piece of independent research, bringing together this comprehensive portfolio of skills to focus upon a research question of your choice. With support from the University’s careers and placements team, the skills and experience derived from this course should be readily transferable to graduate level employment across a range of sectors....

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
The mathematics program strives to fulfill Peru State College’s mission of education, research and public service through three objectives. First, the program is to provide general mathematics courses in support of the majors and programs provided by Peru State College. Second, the program is to provide mathematics courses necessary for students who pursue teaching careers in mathematics. Finally, the program is to prepare students for work in industry or to pursue graduate work in mathematics and statistics.
The Mathematics Major has two options, a Mathematics option and a Mathematics Education option (field endorsement). If the Mathematics Education option is chosen, attention must be given to the additional coursework requirements for entrance into the Secondary Teacher Education program and to the professional semester. Mathematics is a field endorsement in the Teacher Education program....
