The Bachelor of Science, or BSc, is a comprehensive introduction to any field within the applied sciences. The program usually includes a firm theoretical grounding in past research and experience with laboratory procedures and practices.

What is a BSc in Forensic Chemistry? The bachelor’s degree in forensic chemistry is a focused, interdisciplinary approach to understanding how chemical traces can help to reconstruct past events. This means that the course of study includes not only training in chemistry, but also in biology and related fields, as well as the methodology behind forensic investigations. This includes experience and coursework in toxicology, descriptive statistics, and other courses that build on a student’s grasp of basic concepts in chemistry.

Graduates with a BSc in Forensic Chemistry find themselves in demand for entry-level roles within both private and public forensics labs. They are also well prepared for related roles in criminal justice, or for continued education toward a more specialized career, such as a medical examiner.

The cost of baccalaureate forensic chemistry programs can vary quite a bit depending on location, the type of institution, and other factors. The cost typically includes tuition as well as course materials, and sometimes lab fees.

Forensic scientists are engaged in every part of the criminal investigation process for most violent crimes, and may also be called upon to play a role in other investigations that require a detailed investigation of the scene of an event after it has transpired. It is common for graduates to be employed by police departments, the military, and even private investigative firms. In related fields, such as wildlife management and archaeology, they provide the tools for reconstructing events from physical evidence. As their careers mature, graduates in this field also find themselves with opportunities to manage investigative teams.

The demand for forensic chemistry is growing. Courses are available on campus, or you may be able to study online so you can proceed on your own schedule.
